JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa has named Varun Babbar as its new hotel manager, effective 1 September 2026. Babbar brings more than 16 years of luxury hospitality experience, with a focus on operational excellence and elevating guest experiences at the Thai resort.
Babbar's career spans leadership roles at several JW Marriott properties, including pre-opening assignments in India and Sri Lanka. Most recently, he served as director of operations at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams in Colombo, a US$1.4 billion integrated resort. Under his leadership, the property achieved the #1 position on TripAdvisor within its first year and sustained guest satisfaction scores above 95%.
Before that, Babbar was director of rooms at JW Marriott Goa, where he helped the hotel climb from #67 to #5 on TripAdvisor in six months. He also recorded the highest Intent to Recommend score in the Asia-Pacific region, consistently exceeding 90%.
Commenting on his appointment, Babbar said, "I am delighted to join JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa and return to a brand that has played an important role in my professional journey."
Abhimanyu Singh, area general manager for Southern Thailand, welcomed Babbar to the team. "We are delighted to welcome Varun to the team. His extensive background in luxury hospitality brings valuable expertise to the resort," Singh said.
Strategic appointment for Thailand's luxury market
Babbar's appointment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen JW Marriott Khao Lak's position as a leading luxury destination in Thailand. The resort, located on the Andaman coast, has been focusing on service excellence and guest satisfaction as competition intensifies among upscale properties in the region.
The move also reflects Marriott International's continued investment in leadership talent across Southeast Asia. As travel demand in Thailand rebounds, hoteliers are prioritising operational efficiency and personalised guest experiences to differentiate their offerings.
Babbar's track record in driving online reputation metrics and guest loyalty will be key as the resort seeks to maintain high occupancy and rate premiums. His experience with pre-opening projects may also prove valuable as Marriott expands its footprint in the region.
Industry observers note that such appointments are critical for maintaining brand standards, especially in competitive markets like Phuket and Khao Lak. The resort's proximity to Phuket International Airport makes it a convenient choice for both leisure and MICE travellers.
For travel professionals, this leadership change signals a continued emphasis on quality and guest experience at JW Marriott Khao Lak. Agents and tour operators can expect a renewed focus on service excellence, which may translate into enhanced guest satisfaction and repeat bookings.
Babbar's return to the JW Marriott brand underscores the company's ability to attract and retain top talent in the luxury hospitality sector. His appointment is effective from 1 September 2026.
