Vietjet has secured a multi-event partnership with ASEAN United FC, becoming the Official Airline Partner for four competitions, headlined by the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026. The agreement, brokered by SPORTFIVE—the exclusive commercial partner of the ASEAN Football Federation—is designed to leverage Vietjet’s extensive route network to enhance fan mobility across the region.

The low-cost carrier, recognizable by its red-and-yellow livery, will operate direct flights linking Singapore with major Vietnamese cities, facilitating access to the region’s largest sporting event. Vietjet currently serves over 135 routes throughout Southeast Asia, a footprint that aligns with the tournament’s cross-border audience.

Strategic Alignment with Regional Sports Tourism

“Vietjet has always been committed to supporting meaningful sporting events around the world,” said To Viet Thang, Vietjet’s Standing Vice President. “Our partnership with ASEAN United FC competitions reaffirms Vietjet’s commitment to connecting not only destinations, but also people, cultures, and shared values across communities.”

The collaboration extends beyond aviation. Vikki Digital Bank, a Vietjet affiliate, has been named the Official Banking Partner in Vietnam for these events, integrating travel and financial services to improve the customer experience. This dual-pronged approach mirrors trends seen in other markets, such as Accor's Global Leadership Council mapping 2026 hospitality trends, where loyalty and strategic partnerships are central.

For travel professionals, the deal underscores the growing intersection of sports tourism and airline route development. Vietjet’s strategy of using major events to stimulate demand on specific city pairs—like Singapore–Ho Chi Minh City or Singapore–Hanoi—offers a template for carriers seeking to fill seats during off-peak periods. The airline’s expansion since its 2011 inaugural flight has been aggressive, and this partnership further cements its presence in the ASEAN aviation market.

The ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 will serve as the flagship event, drawing fans from across the bloc. Vietjet’s role in moving supporters aligns with broader industry efforts to boost regional connectivity, similar to Solomon Airlines and Philippine Airlines launching an interline partnership with through check-in, which also prioritizes seamless travel.

From a MICE perspective, the partnership opens opportunities for tour operators and agents to package match tickets with flights and accommodation. The integration of Vikki Digital Bank’s services could streamline payments and loyalty rewards, a feature increasingly demanded by tech-savvy travelers. Vietjet’s recent recognition with dual HR Asia Awards for workplace excellence, as reported in Vietjet Secures Dual HR Asia Awards, suggests the airline is also investing in the operational backbone needed to support such large-scale events.

The deal is expected to strengthen Vietjet’s brand visibility across Southeast Asia, particularly among younger, football-loving demographics. For hoteliers and ground operators in Vietnam and Singapore, the influx of fans during tournament periods could drive occupancy and ancillary revenue. As the region’s aviation market continues to recover, partnerships that marry sports and travel are likely to become more common, offering airlines a differentiated way to build loyalty and fill seats.
