Akasa Air, India's fastest-growing carrier, has marked its fourth anniversary with the launch of Akasa Elevate, a loyalty programme designed to deepen customer engagement and reward frequent flyers. The programme allows members to earn Elevate Points on eligible flights and ancillary purchases, with a straightforward tier system that promises faster recognition and exclusive perks.

Since its August 2022 debut, the Mumbai-based airline has carried nearly 30 million passengers and expanded its fleet to over 40 aircraft, a pace unmatched in Indian aviation history. The carrier's growth strategy has centred on customer experience and operational efficiency, a philosophy that extends to the new loyalty offering.

Programme mechanics and benefits

Akasa Elevate is built around simplicity and value. Members earn points on every eligible flight and on ancillary services such as seat selection, baggage, and onboard purchases. The tier progression is based on either eligible flights or spend, making it accessible to both leisure and business travellers.

Key features include unlimited priority services, exclusive benefits across seats and baggage, dedicated member care, and personalised recognition. The programme also offers a limited-time Retro Claim, allowing passengers to earn points for travel dating back to 1 April 2026, a move that rewards existing loyal customers and encourages early enrolment.

Vinay Dube, founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said: "Akasa Elevate reflects our philosophy of putting customers at the heart of everything we do." He emphasised that the programme is designed to be simple and rewarding, with benefits available from the very first journey.

The launch comes as Akasa Air continues to expand its domestic network, competing with established players like IndiGo and Air India. The airline has also signalled ambitions for international routes, though no specific destinations have been announced.

Industry analysts view the loyalty programme as a strategic move to increase customer retention in a highly competitive market. With the Indian aviation sector rebounding strongly post-pandemic, carriers are investing in ancillary revenue streams and customer loyalty to differentiate themselves.

Akasa Elevate will evolve with new capabilities and partnerships, according to the airline, which plans to integrate the programme with future services and alliances. The programme is expected to appeal to both corporate travellers and the growing segment of leisure flyers in India.

For travel professionals, the launch underscores the importance of loyalty in the Indian market, where low-cost carriers have traditionally competed on price. Akasa's move could prompt rivals to enhance their own loyalty offerings, benefiting agents and corporate travel managers who can now offer clients additional value.

As Akasa Air expands its network, the programme's flexibility and retroactive claim window provide an immediate incentive for passengers to consolidate their travel with the carrier. The airline's focus on customer-centric innovation positions it well for the next phase of growth.
