Aman has formally unveiled its first Maldivian property, Amanolu, scheduled to open in 2028 within the secluded Vaavu Atoll. The project marks the luxury hospitality group's debut in the Indian Ocean archipelago, a market long dominated by rivals such as Four Seasons, Soneva, and Cheval Blanc.

The resort will comprise 52 keys and 16 branded residences, all designed by the late Kerry Hill's architectural practice. The design language draws on the Maldives' natural assets—white coralline beaches, turquoise lagoons, and dense palm vegetation—to create a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. Each Aman Residence will occupy its own private island, offering either sunrise or sunset orientations, or both, with uninterrupted views from dawn to dusk.

Residences and amenities

Each five-bedroom residence will include expansive living areas, a private beach, and a 25-metre swimming pool. The layout is intended to balance privacy with a strong connection to the environment, a hallmark of Aman's portfolio. The brand, founded in 1988, currently operates 36 hotels, resorts, and residences worldwide, with Amanolu representing its first foray into the Maldives.

The property will also feature a dedicated wellness island, housing an expansive Aman Spa and signature Spa Houses. A separate activity island will offer diving, snorkelling, and watersports, alongside dining venues and family facilities. Aman's renowned service model—high staff-to-guest ratios and personalised attention—will be central to the guest experience.

The announcement comes as the Maldives continues to attract high-end hospitality investment. Recent openings and expansions in the region include Four Seasons' twin honeymoon concepts and SunRay Social & Swim Club at SAii Lagoon, underscoring the competitive landscape for luxury operators.

Aman's entry is expected to intensify competition among ultra-luxury brands in the Maldives, particularly in the wellness and private-island segments. The brand's emphasis on holistic retreats aligns with broader industry trends toward experiential and health-focused travel, a segment that has seen robust growth post-pandemic.

Travel advisors and luxury tour operators will likely view Amanolu as a significant addition to their Maldives offerings, given Aman's established reputation and loyal clientele. The project also signals continued confidence in the Maldives' long-term tourism prospects, despite global economic uncertainties.

Construction is slated to begin in the coming years, with the resort expected to welcome its first guests in 2028. Further details on booking policies and introductory rates are anticipated closer to opening.
