AmaWaterways has officially revealed AmaRudi, its second double-width river cruise ship and now the largest vessel of its kind in Europe. Scheduled to enter service on the Danube River in spring 2027, the ship builds on the platform established by AmaMagna while pushing further into the territory of space, comfort, and onboard variety.
For travel professionals, the launch signals a clear direction: river cruising is evolving to attract guests who want the intimacy of a smaller vessel without sacrificing the amenities typically associated with larger ocean ships. AmaRudi is designed to deliver exactly that balance.
Scale Meets Intimacy
AmaRudi will accommodate just 196 passengers across 98 staterooms and suites — a notably low density for a ship of its size. That ratio gives the vessel a rare combination of generous public spaces and a personal atmosphere, a formula that has proven popular among river cruisers. It is also the first AmaWaterways ship named after a man, honoring co-founder Rudi Schreiner, whose deep connection to the Danube and role in shaping modern river cruising give the vessel a strong narrative hook in a market where ships can sometimes feel interchangeable.
Dining, Wellness, and Entertainment
The onboard experience emphasizes variety. Dining venues include Journey's Restaurant, The Chef's Table, al fresco options, and Rudi's Wine Bar, plus a deck barbecue on the Sun Deck. Lunch and dinner will feature an expanded drinks offering, and new Italian lunch menus will debut at The Chef's Table.
Wellness is a major focus. The ship will offer massage rooms, hair and nail services, a fitness center, wellness hosts, and a Sun Deck pickleball court. That combination suggests AmaWaterways is aiming for an active, social, and relaxed atmosphere — a strong pitch for Danube itineraries.
One of the most notable additions is a dedicated entertainment venue exclusive to AmaRudi. It includes a cinema, karaoke, billiards, and a jukebox, all soundproofed to prevent noise from disturbing the rest of the ship. This design move gives the vessel a livelier personality without compromising the quiet elegance that river cruisers expect.
Sustainability and Industry Context
AmaRudi continues the line's emphasis on responsible design. It will feature Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connectivity, spud poles, and lightweight materials aimed at improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. As European waterways face increasing scrutiny on emissions, such features are becoming a baseline expectation for operators.
The launch comes as river cruising continues to attract a broader demographic, including younger travelers and multi-generational groups. AmaWaterways is positioning AmaRudi to appeal to couples, groups, and repeat cruisers seeking both relaxation and active options. For agents and tour operators, the ship offers a new product that stands out in a crowded segment.
