Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has released the first visuals of its upcoming Great Tides Waterpark on Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, with a scheduled opening on 4 September 2026. The nearly six-acre attraction is designed to appeal to both thrill-seekers and families, featuring 19 waterslides, a wandering river, and what the line describes as the Caribbean's tallest cliff jumps.
Among the standout features is The Wandering River, which includes an immersive tunnel, and The Great Slide, billed as the Caribbean's only four-person body slide. The Tidal Tower area introduces duelling Master Blaster slides, while Cliffside Cove will host the industry's first cliff jumps. For younger guests, Splash Cay offers a dedicated splash zone.
Dining and amenities
Dining options at the waterpark will include Low Tide Smoke, serving barbecue favourites, and Catch of the Cay, offering premium seafood. Sweet treats will be available at Tidal Treats, featuring handcrafted desserts such as the Strawberry Red Velvet Sundae.
Marc Kazlauskas, president of NCL, expressed enthusiasm about the waterpark's debut, stating it will offer "adrenaline-pumping attractions and family-friendly activities" alongside unique dining experiences. The island's new two-berth pier is now open, ensuring convenient access for guests.
Visitors can reserve private cabanas or enjoy adult-only spaces at the new Vibe Shore Club. Day passes for the waterpark are available for purchase, with the grand opening coinciding with Norwegian Luna's Caribbean sailing on 29 August 2026.
The development underscores NCL's broader investment in its private island experience, a trend seen across the cruise industry as lines enhance their exclusive destinations. For travel agents, the new waterpark adds a compelling selling point for Bahamas itineraries, particularly those aboard Norwegian Luna. The line's focus on family-friendly amenities aligns with growing demand for multigenerational travel, as noted in recent industry reports. NCL's move also follows similar expansions by competitors, such as Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, which has driven significant booking interest.
With the pier now operational, NCL can accommodate larger vessels, improving turnaround efficiency and guest experience. The waterpark's opening is expected to boost the appeal of Caribbean cruises, especially for families seeking a mix of adventure and relaxation. As the cruise sector continues to recover, investments in private destinations are becoming a key differentiator for lines vying for market share.
