Asia and the Middle East are embarking on an unprecedented airport infrastructure build-out, with US$240 billion allocated over the next ten years. According to Airports Council International (ACI), these investments will expand capacity for an additional 1.24 billion passengers, with passenger traffic expected to grow 4.8% annually in Asia and 5.4% in the Middle East between 2025 and 2028. By 2053, the region aims to accommodate nearly 11 billion passengers per year, driven by advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and biometrics to enhance operations, security, and sustainability.

PTE Asia to Debut in Singapore

Passenger Terminal Expo Asia (PTE Asia) will make its debut on 23-24 September 2026 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The event will convene airport CEOs, aviation authorities, and technology innovators from across Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia to discuss the future of airport infrastructure and passenger experience. Dominic Pinfold, Event Director of PTE Asia, stated: "Asia is defining the next era of aviation. Decisions being made today will shape how billions of passengers travel over the coming decades."

Major projects already underway include Singapore's Changi Airport Terminal 5 and Saudi Arabia's King Salman International Airport. These developments reflect a broader trend of governments and private investors prioritizing airport modernization as a catalyst for economic growth and tourism. For example, Thailand recently approved $1.99 billion in high-tech investments, boosting AI and electronics hub ambitions, which could further support smart airport initiatives in the region.

PTE Asia will feature discussions on airport capacity planning, terminal development, and sustainability, providing a platform for industry professionals to exchange practical solutions. Exhibition passes start at $73 (SGD$100), while full conference passes are priced at $365 (SGD$500). Complimentary attendance is available for qualifying professionals, with exclusive VIP networking opportunities for senior executives.

The investment wave is reshaping airport infrastructure across the region. In addition to Changi and King Salman, other notable projects include expansions at Hong Kong International Airport, Incheon International Airport, and Dubai International Airport. These hubs are integrating biometric boarding, AI-driven security screening, and sustainable energy systems to improve efficiency and passenger experience.

For travel professionals—airline executives, hoteliers, cruise lines, tour operators, agents, and travel-tech vendors—this investment signals significant opportunities. Airlines can expect improved connectivity and reduced congestion, while hoteliers and tour operators may see increased demand from growing passenger volumes. Travel-tech vendors will find a ready market for solutions in biometrics, AI, and sustainability.

The event also aligns with broader industry trends, such as the WTTC's global campaign to identify seven contemporary wonders of travel, which highlights the importance of infrastructure in shaping travel experiences. As Asia and the Middle East continue to invest heavily in airports, the region is poised to become a global leader in aviation innovation and passenger service.
