Aviator Airport Alliance has secured a four-year ground handling contract with Lufthansa Group at Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport (GOT), strengthening its footprint in the Nordic region. The agreement, effective 1 December 2026 through 30 November 2030, covers approximately 70 turnarounds per week for five Lufthansa Group carriers: Lufthansa Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines.

The contract underscores Aviator's capability to manage full ground handling operations, including de-icing and anti-icing procedures that are critical for maintaining schedule integrity during harsh Nordic winters. Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest airport, serves as a key gateway for both business and leisure travel, and the Lufthansa Group's presence there connects the region to its global hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Brussels, and Zurich.

Strengthening Nordic operations

Casper Olhoff Dons, Chief Commercial Officer at Aviator, said: “Being entrusted with the Lufthansa Group’s operations at Gothenburg is a strong endorsement of our teams and the standards we uphold across the Nordics.” The company, which already provides ground services to a range of international carriers in Sweden, sees this as a strategic win that solidifies its position in the market.

Demet Temur, Vice President Commercial Airport Agreements at Lufthansa Group, highlighted the importance of Gothenburg within the group's Northern European network. “Customer-oriented and reliable ground handling is fundamental to the experience we offer our passengers. We are pleased to deepen our cooperation with Aviator,” she said.

The deal comes as Lufthansa Group continues to refine its airport partnerships and operational efficiency. Earlier this year, the group extended its NDC distribution alliance with TPConnects through 2030, signalling a broader push toward digital and service excellence. For Aviator, the contract builds on its recent momentum in the Nordics, where it has invested in equipment and training to meet the demands of winter operations.

Gothenburg-Landvetter is a focus city for several airlines, and the Lufthansa Group's commitment to the route underscores the airport's role in connecting Scandinavia with Central Europe. The contract also aligns with Aviator's growth strategy, which has seen it expand its portfolio of airline clients across Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Industry observers note that ground handling contracts are increasingly competitive, with airlines seeking partners that can deliver consistent performance and cost efficiency. Aviator's ability to secure a multi-year agreement with a major group like Lufthansa is a testament to its operational reliability and local expertise.

The new contract will see Aviator manage passenger services, ramp handling, baggage services, and aircraft cleaning, in addition to de-icing. The company has a strong track record in winter operations, having developed specialised procedures to minimise delays during snow and ice events.

For Lufthansa Group, the partnership ensures continuity at Gothenburg, where it operates multiple daily frequencies to its hubs. The group has been expanding its point-to-point and feeder traffic in Scandinavia, and reliable ground handling is essential to maintaining its schedule integrity.

Aviator's win also reflects the broader trend of airlines consolidating ground handling contracts with fewer, more capable providers. By securing this deal, Aviator positions itself as a preferred partner for major carriers in the region, potentially opening doors to additional contracts in the future.

The contract is expected to create stability for ground staff at Gothenburg, with Aviator committing to maintain high service levels throughout the year. The company has already begun preparations for the transition, including staff training and equipment upgrades.

As the travel industry continues to recover and grow, partnerships like this one are vital for ensuring smooth operations at key airports. Aviator's new agreement with Lufthansa Group is a clear signal that the Nordic ground handling market remains competitive and dynamic.
