Bali Mandira Beach Resort & Spa has expanded its F&B portfolio with the launch of Mister Wasabi, a new dining venue in Legian, Indonesia. The establishment aims to offer a contemporary take on Japanese cuisine, blending traditional techniques with bold, unexpected flavours in a setting designed for both dining and socialising.

Situated in the heart of Legian, Mister Wasabi presents two distinct experiences. The upper floor houses a modern Japanese restaurant with an open kitchen, where classic culinary methods meet creative interpretations. Downstairs, the izakaya offers a lively atmosphere for sharing plates, handcrafted cocktails, and sake.

Gilar Manggala, Corporate Assistant PR & Marketing Director of Bali Mandira Beach Resort & Spa, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “We hope it brings a fresh new colour, energy, and experience to the area whilst continuing our commitment to creating memorable experiences for our guests.”

At the core of Mister Wasabi is the philosophy of Sōsaku ryōri, meaning creative or inventive cuisine. The menu honours authentic Japanese techniques while introducing unexpected flavour combinations and contemporary presentation. From Japanese favourites to innovative creations, Mister Wasabi aims to become Legian’s newest lifestyle destination where tradition meets modern creativity.

Design and dining experience

The venue’s design reflects a blend of modern aesthetics and traditional Japanese elements, creating an inviting space for both casual diners and those seeking a more refined experience. The open kitchen allows guests to watch chefs at work, adding a theatrical element to the meal. The izakaya downstairs, with its communal seating and vibrant energy, encourages a social dining atmosphere.

Mister Wasabi is open daily from 12pm to 12am, catering to both lunch and dinner guests. The menu includes a range of sushi, sashimi, robata-grilled dishes, and creative small plates, alongside a curated selection of sake and cocktails.

This launch underscores Bali Mandira’s ongoing efforts to enhance its guest offerings and position itself as a destination for culinary exploration. The resort, located on Legian Beach, has long been a popular choice for travellers seeking a blend of relaxation and vibrant local culture.

For travel professionals, the new venue adds another option for clients visiting Bali, particularly those interested in Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. The dual-level concept also provides flexibility for group dining or private events, which could appeal to MICE planners looking for unique venues in the area.

Bali Mandira’s move reflects a broader trend in the hospitality industry of expanding beyond traditional hotel restaurants to standalone dining concepts that attract both guests and locals. Similar initiatives have been seen across the region, as hotels seek to differentiate themselves in competitive markets.

As the travel industry continues to recover, such additions signal confidence in the rebound of tourism in Bali. The island has seen a steady increase in visitor numbers, and new dining venues like Mister Wasabi are likely to enhance its appeal as a culinary destination.
