BWH Hotels Asia has emerged from 2023 with a strengthened portfolio and a clear strategic focus on soft brands, according to the group's year-end review. The global hospitality enterprise—which encompasses WorldHotels, Best Western Hotels & Resorts, and SureStay Hotels—operates approximately 4,300 properties across 100 countries. In Asia, the company has used its 18-brand spectrum to target both developers and guests seeking differentiated experiences.

Soft Brands as a Growth Engine

Soft brands such as BW Signature Collection, BW Premier Collection, and WorldHotels have become central to BWH's expansion in Asia. These collections allow independent hotels to retain their identity while accessing the group's distribution, loyalty, and operational support. Notable 2023 additions include Hotel Villa Fontaine Premier Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Tawa Ravadee Resort Prachinburi in Thailand, and La Green Hotel & Residence in the Philippines. The BW Signature Collection welcomed KAYA Kyoto Nijo Castle, Alhambra Hotel & Convention in Japan, and The Sanctuary Resort Pattaya. Plans are underway to introduce BW Premier Collection to Vietnam, with several properties slated for the coming year.

The launch of Seekers Finders Rama IV Hotel in Bangkok marked the debut of SureStay Collection by Best Western in Asia, further diversifying the group's soft-brand offerings. These moves align with broader industry trends where soft brands appeal to owners seeking brand affiliation without sacrificing individuality—a dynamic also noted by HOFTEL's Simon Allison, who advises investors to look beyond buzzwords in Southeast Asia.

Hard Brands Hold Strong

While soft brands gained attention, BWH's hard brands also performed well. Best Western, Best Western Plus, and the upscale Best Western Premier saw strong occupancy and revenue metrics across the region. In Bangkok alone, the group opened Best Western Chatuchak, Best Western Ratchada Hotel, and Best Western Click Sathorn 11. The rebranding of The Sanctuary Resort Pattaya and the addition of Best Western Plus Carapace Hotel Hua Hin further solidified the group's presence in Thailand's key leisure markets.

Regional Expansion Across Asia

BWH Hotels Asia focused on strategic markets including Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan. In the Philippines, Best Western Plus Metro Clark and SureStay Plus by Best Western Cebu City opened as prominent new properties. In Japan, the Alhambra Hotel & Convention (BW Signature Collection) and Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport added capacity in the convention and airport segments. The group's expansion strategy aims to attract both new and returning guests by diversifying its portfolio across price points and travel purposes.

This measured growth mirrors broader hospitality investment trends in the region. As Colliers has projected measured US hotel growth through 2026, similar disciplined expansion is evident in Asia, where BWH is balancing hard-brand consistency with soft-brand flexibility.

Outlook for 2024 and Beyond

BWH Hotels Asia remains committed to expanding its soft-brand footprint, particularly through WorldHotels and BW Premier Collection. The group sees these collections as key to delivering unique travel experiences while maintaining operational standards. With a pipeline that includes properties in Vietnam and additional markets, BWH is positioning itself to capture demand from both leisure and business travelers seeking authentic, locally rooted stays.

For travel professionals—from hoteliers and tour operators to agents and corporate buyers—BWH's Asia strategy offers a case study in how soft brands can drive growth without diluting brand equity. The group's ability to layer independent properties under recognizable umbrellas may well define its next phase of success in the region.
