easyJet has strengthened its presence at Cornwall Airport Newquay with the launch of a new domestic summer route to London Gatwick and the announcement of its first-ever international service from the airport to Geneva, Switzerland. The moves underscore the carrier's strategy to expand regional connectivity and support Cornwall's tourism economy.

New Summer Route to London Gatwick

The London Gatwick service commenced on 23 June and operates twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season. Fares start at £43.99 one-way. The route is designed to improve domestic links for both leisure and business travellers, providing a direct connection between Cornwall and the UK's busiest single-runway airport.

Nigel Scott, Commercial Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: "It's fantastic to see easyJet's new London Gatwick service take to the skies, strengthening our London connectivity during the busy summer season and giving local passengers greater choice."

First International Service: Newquay–Geneva

easyJet's inaugural international route from Newquay will begin on 16 January 2027, operating weekly on Saturdays until 27 February 2027. The service targets high demand for direct access to Alpine ski resorts, particularly during the February half-term period. Fares start at £37.99 one-way.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet UK Country Manager, commented: "We are delighted to have launched our summer route between London Gatwick and Newquay, and to be putting our first international service from the region on sale, with our winter route to Geneva."

The Geneva route marks a milestone for Cornwall Airport Newquay, which has historically focused on domestic and Irish services. Scott added: "The Geneva route is a significant milestone for the airport, opening up direct access to the Alps for skiers and snowboarders in the South West."

Strategic Implications for Regional Travel

These developments align with broader trends in European aviation, where low-cost carriers are increasingly investing in regional airports to capture leisure demand and relieve congestion at major hubs. easyJet's expansion at Newquay also supports Cornwall's visitor economy, which relies heavily on summer tourism and is seeking to grow winter arrivals.

For travel professionals, the new routes offer additional inventory for package holidays, ski trips, and domestic connections. The Geneva service, in particular, provides a direct link from South West England to one of Europe's key gateways for winter sports, potentially reducing reliance on connecting flights via London or Manchester.

Seats for both routes are available for booking on easyJet's website and mobile app. The airline has not disclosed plans for further expansion from Newquay, but the addition of an international route suggests confidence in the airport's catchment area.

As the travel industry continues to adapt to shifting demand patterns, easyJet's move reinforces the importance of regional connectivity in both domestic and short-haul international markets. For more on how European travel is evolving, see our analysis of how heatwaves are reshaping operations.
