EHL Hospitality Business School has announced a strategic partnership with Apaleo, the API-first property management platform, to embed practical hospitality technology education into its Master's in Hospitality Management. The collaboration, effective from the upcoming academic cycle, is designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles where digital decision-making is central to hotel operations.
Apaleo, which currently supports more than 2,200 properties across 30 countries, will serve as the first official industry partner for EHL's Human-Centred Digitalisation specialisation. The partnership will bring Apaleo's technology experts into the classroom as guest speakers, and will offer students hands-on sessions with the platform and its AI-driven Agent Hub. During the programme's Concept Week, students will develop new digital product concepts inspired by Apaleo's real-world projects, and will tackle live business research questions for their capstone projects.
Bridging academia and industry
Prof. Alessandro Inversini, specialisation director at EHL, stressed that the partnership is about more than just technology adoption. “Digital transformation succeeds or fails on how well it serves people, not on how advanced the technology is,” he said. “This collaboration ensures our students understand that principle from day one.”
Florian Montag, SVP Revenue at Apaleo and an EHL alumnus, echoed that sentiment. “Apaleo exists because we believe technology should empower hoteliers to achieve their goals and make life easier for their teams,” he said. “Partnering with EHL allows us to share that vision with the next generation of hospitality leaders.”
The initiative comes as hospitality schools worldwide are rethinking curricula to keep pace with rapid digitalisation. EHL's approach is to combine academic rigour with direct industry exposure, a model that is increasingly relevant as hotel groups, from Hilton to independent boutiques, seek managers who can navigate cloud-based PMS, revenue management systems, and AI-driven guest engagement tools.
For Apaleo, the partnership is a chance to shape how future hoteliers perceive technology. The company's open platform is already used by a range of operators, from tech-savvy startups to established groups, and its integration with major distribution channels such as Amadeus and Sabre makes it a relevant case study for students.
Students will also benefit from Apaleo's global footprint. With properties in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, the platform offers a cross-border perspective on hospitality operations, from boutique hotels in Berlin to resort properties in Southeast Asia. This aligns with EHL's international focus, which draws students from over 120 countries.
The partnership is set to provide students with a contemporary understanding of hospitality technology, preparing them for roles where digital decisions are crucial. As Singapore anticipates significant growth in tourism, initiatives like this are vital for developing future leaders in the hospitality sector.
EHL's move also reflects a broader trend in hospitality education, where institutions are partnering with technology vendors to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Similar collaborations have been seen at other schools, but EHL's focus on human-centred digitalisation is a distinctive angle that resonates with industry demands for technology that enhances, rather than replaces, the human touch.
For travel professionals, the partnership signals a growing recognition that technology literacy is no longer optional for hotel management. As the industry continues to digitise, from contactless check-in to AI-powered housekeeping optimisation, the ability to evaluate and implement such tools will be a key differentiator for future leaders.
The first cohort of students under this partnership will begin in the next academic year, with Apaleo's involvement expected to grow over time. Both organisations have indicated that the collaboration could expand to include research projects, internships, and potentially other programmes within EHL's portfolio.
