flydubai has confirmed it will resume nonstop service between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Skopje International Airport (SKP) on 1 April 2027. The three-times-weekly operation will re-establish a direct link between the UAE hub and North Macedonia's capital, lifting the carrier's European network to 34 destinations.

The route will be operated with a mix of Business and Economy Class cabins, and passengers will be able to feed into flydubai's extensive codeshare agreement with Emirates, using Dubai as a gateway to hundreds of onward connections across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and beyond.

Strategic importance for Dubai and Europe

Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive of flydubai, underscored the role of connectivity in Dubai's aviation ecosystem. "Connectivity is a key part of Dubai's success as a global aviation hub," he said, pointing to the emirate's continued investment in infrastructure and airline partnerships.

Jeyhun Efendi, divisional senior vice president for commercial operations and e-commerce at flydubai, noted that Europe remains a core market for the airline. He added that the resumed Skopje service would give travellers more choice and flexibility, particularly for the Macedonian diaspora living in Australia and Asia, who often rely on one-stop itineraries via Dubai.

The route will operate from Terminal 3 at DXB, the same terminal used by Emirates, facilitating seamless transfers for codeshare passengers. Return Business Class fares from Skopje start at $3,200 (EUR 3,000), while Economy Class Lite fares begin at $620 (EUR 580). From Dubai, Business Class fares start at $3,400 (AED 12,500), with Economy Class Lite fares from $760 (AED 2,800).

The restored connection is expected to strengthen trade and tourism flows between the UAE and North Macedonia. Skopje, with its Ottoman-era old bazaar and modern landmarks, is a growing draw for leisure travellers, while the country's natural landscapes—from Lake Ohrid to the Matka Canyon—offer additional appeal for regional tourism.

For travel agents and tour operators, the new schedule provides a reliable option for group and FIT bookings, especially for clients seeking to combine a Dubai stopover with a Balkan itinerary. The codeshare with Emirates also opens up the possibility of multi-city routings, allowing travellers to fly into Skopje and return from other European gateways.

flydubai's expansion in Europe comes as the airline continues to grow its network in response to demand. The carrier already serves a range of European cities, including Bucharest, Sofia, and Zagreb, and the Skopje addition reinforces its commitment to secondary and emerging markets.

Industry observers note that the route will also benefit cargo operators, as North Macedonia's export sector—particularly textiles and automotive parts—seeks efficient air links to Gulf markets. The belly-hold capacity on the passenger flights will provide additional freight options.

The resumption aligns with broader trends in the region, where several carriers are adding or restoring services to the Balkans. For example, SalamAir's recent network expansion highlights the growing appetite for new point-to-point connections in the Middle East and beyond.

With the launch date set for April 2027, flydubai is expected to open bookings shortly. Travel advisors should monitor fare availability and codeshare inventory, as early demand is likely to be strong given the diaspora traffic and the route's novelty.
