Frasers Hospitality, the serviced residence arm of Singapore-based Frasers Property, has announced the soft opening of Fraser Residence Wuzhen, marking its entry into the historic water town in Zhejiang province, China. The property, located 2.4 kilometres from Wuzhen's scenic zones, offers 117 serviced flats designed for both short and extended stays, featuring fully equipped kitchenettes and washer dryers.
The residence blends modern comfort with traditional Jiangnan aesthetics, reflecting the region's architectural heritage. Facilities include a 24-hour gym, a Residents' Lounge, and a dedicated Kids' Playzone. The on-site restaurant serves contemporary Jiangnan cuisine, highlighting local flavours with seasonal ingredients.
Strategic Expansion Across Asia
This opening is part of Frasers Hospitality's broader strategy to expand its serviced living portfolio across Asia, with plans to open 18 new properties by 2028. The company operates brands including Fraser Suites, Fraser Place, and Fraser Residence, targeting both business and leisure travellers seeking longer stays.
Chief Operating Officer Chew Hang Song stated, “Fraser Residence Wuzhen broadens the role our brands can play across China’s evolving hospitality landscape.” He noted the growing demand for travel destinations that combine leisure, culture, and longer-stay potential.
Wuzhen, a popular tourist destination known for its canals and ancient architecture, attracts both domestic and international visitors. The property's location positions it to serve travellers exploring the Yangtze River Delta region, which includes major cities like Shanghai and Hangzhou.
To celebrate the opening, guests can enjoy a 30% discount on the Best Flexible Rate for stays of two consecutive nights or more until 15 September 2026. This initiative underscores Frasers Hospitality's commitment to providing flexible and comfortable living experiences in culturally rich locations.
Industry observers note that the serviced apartment segment continues to grow in China, driven by increasing demand from both corporate travellers and leisure tourists seeking home-like amenities. Frasers Hospitality's expansion aligns with trends seen in other markets, where hybrid hospitality models are gaining traction.
For travel professionals, the opening represents a new option for clients visiting the Wuzhen area, particularly those interested in extended stays or combining business with leisure. The property's facilities, including the Kids' Playzone and Residents' Lounge, cater to families and groups.
Frasers Hospitality's move into Wuzhen also reflects broader shifts in Chinese tourism, where secondary cities and historic towns are attracting more visitors. Similar trends have been observed in other markets, such as the expansion of luxury residences in urban centres like Aman New York.
The company's focus on serviced residences positions it to compete with hotel groups and alternative accommodation providers. As the hospitality industry evolves, properties like Fraser Residence Wuzhen offer a middle ground between traditional hotels and short-term rentals, appealing to travellers seeking both service and space.
