GetJet Group has unveiled a €25 million investment in a new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Vilnius International Airport, marking a major step in the group's push for technical self-sufficiency. The project, secured through a land lease auction organized by Lithuanian Airports, grants the group a 40-year lease on an 11,200 sq. m. plot adjacent to its existing operations.
The new hangar will complement a 4,700 sq. m. plot already under lease, where a separate €10 million hangar is currently under construction. Together, these facilities are expected to significantly expand GetJet's capacity to service its own fleet and third-party carriers, reducing reliance on external MRO providers.
Strategic expansion for fleet independence
Darius Viltrakis, CEO of GetJet Group, emphasized the strategic importance of the investment: "Expanding our MRO capabilities is one of our key strategic priorities. This facility will enhance our operational flexibility and technical independence, allowing us to respond faster to maintenance needs and better control costs."
Inga Duglas, CEO of GetJet Airlines, echoed that sentiment, noting that "developing our own MRO infrastructure is a major step towards strengthening our ability to support our fleet independently." The group operates a fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft on ACMI and charter contracts across Europe, and the new facility will support both scheduled maintenance and line maintenance activities.
The investment is expected to create approximately 200 new aviation jobs across GetJet's operations at Vilnius and Šiauliai airports. The group has partnered with Vaidotas Žala, winner of the 2026 Dakar Rally, to promote careers in aviation and attract skilled talent to the region.
Lithuanian Airports and Invest Lithuania have welcomed the project, highlighting its role in boosting the competitiveness of Lithuania's aviation sector. The development has been approved under the country's national security requirements, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
GetJet's expansion comes as the Baltic region sees growing demand for MRO services, driven by the increasing number of narrowbody aircraft operating in Northern Europe. The new facility will position the group to capture a larger share of this market, offering services to both its own fleet and external customers.
The project also aligns with broader trends in the aviation industry, where airlines and lessors are investing in in-house maintenance capabilities to mitigate supply chain disruptions and rising MRO costs. For travel professionals, this move signals GetJet's commitment to operational reliability, which is critical for ACMI and charter operators serving tour operators and airlines across Europe.
As GetJet continues to expand its footprint, the new MRO facility will be a key enabler of its growth strategy, allowing the group to offer more competitive and flexible solutions to its clients. The first phase of the project is expected to be operational within two years, with the full facility coming online shortly thereafter.
