Hyatt Hotels Corporation has expanded its Japan portfolio with the opening of Hyatt Centric Sapporo, the first Hyatt Centric property in Hokkaido. Located in the heart of Sapporo, the hotel targets both leisure and business travelers seeking a base to explore the island's renowned ski resorts, hot springs, and national parks.
The hotel occupies the upper floors of a mixed-use tower, adjacent to the historic Akarenga-chosha and within walking distance of Odori Park. Guests can reach the Odori subway station via an underground walkway, while JR Sapporo Station is a 10-minute stroll away. This connectivity positions the property as a convenient gateway for domestic and international visitors.
Design and guest experience
Hyatt Centric Sapporo features 216 guestrooms and suites, with interiors that draw on Hokkaido's cultural and natural heritage. The design incorporates local materials and motifs, reflecting the island's distinct seasons and landscapes.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Hyatt Centric brand to Sapporo, a dynamic destination where every season reveals a new side of Hokkaido,” said Yuki Takimura, General Manager of Hyatt Centric Sapporo. “Our team is dedicated to helping guests uncover the city's hidden gems, from winter sports to summer festivals.”
The hotel also offers a Local Insiders program, providing guests with curated recommendations for seasonal attractions, dining, and activities. This aligns with the Hyatt Centric brand's focus on neighborhood immersion.
Dining outlets
Two dining venues are available on-site. Matsu Grill & Bar specializes in wood-fired grilling with Mediterranean influences, while Mr. Fish is a casual café serving fish and chips made from local ingredients. Both outlets aim to showcase Hokkaido's culinary strengths, from fresh seafood to regional produce.
The opening adds to Hyatt's growing presence in Japan, which includes properties in Tokyo, Kyoto, and other key cities. The company continues to target strategic locations that appeal to both corporate and leisure travelers.
To mark the launch, Hyatt Centric Sapporo is offering a promotional package for bookings made by 31 October 2026. The offer includes discounted rates, complimentary breakfast, and hotel credits. World of Hyatt members can also earn double points on eligible stays, a move likely to appeal to frequent travelers.
Sapporo, Hokkaido's capital, is a year-round destination. In winter, it serves as a base for skiing at nearby resorts such as Niseko and Rusutsu. In summer, the city's parks and beer gardens attract visitors, while autumn brings vibrant foliage. The hotel's central location makes it a practical choice for exploring these attractions.
Hyatt Centric Sapporo joins a growing list of recent openings in the region, reflecting broader trends in Japan's hospitality market. As inbound tourism continues to recover, hoteliers are investing in properties that offer both comfort and local authenticity.
For travel professionals, the new property represents an additional option for clients seeking a contemporary stay in Hokkaido. Its combination of location, amenities, and brand recognition may appeal to both leisure and corporate segments.
The hotel's opening also underscores Hyatt's commitment to expanding its lifestyle brands in Asia-Pacific. With the Hyatt Centric brand now present in Sapporo, the company is well-positioned to capture demand from travelers looking for a vibrant, experience-led stay.
