Accor's ibis budget brand has strengthened its presence in Spain with the opening of the ibis budget Barcelona Centre, a newly built flagship property in the Poblenou district. The hotel is part of the 22@ Barcelona urban regeneration project, a tech and innovation hub that includes research centres and residential spaces.

Owned by SIH and AGP Hotels, the ibis budget Barcelona Centre is the largest ibis budget hotel in Iberia, with 189 guest rooms. The property features a rooftop pool, a spacious indoor garden, and an outdoor courtyard. A dedicated food concept under the Be Smart Food brand serves both guests and local visitors.

Location and Connectivity

The hotel is situated a 15-minute walk from Bogatell beach and the Olympic Port, and is close to Llacuna metro station, providing direct access to Barcelona's historic city centre. This location makes it convenient for both leisure and business travellers exploring the Catalan capital.

Marc Serarols of Accor highlighted the hotel's role in demonstrating efficient hospitality, while Alexandre Guénant of AGP Hotels emphasised its appeal to urban travellers, noting the rooftop pool and generous outdoor areas as key differentiators.

The property aligns with Accor's broader sustainability goals, including a target to reduce water withdrawals globally by 45%. The hotel incorporates water reuse systems and solar energy, reflecting the group's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Accor now operates over 100 hotels in Spain, including more than 20 in Barcelona. The ibis budget brand continues to expand across 25 countries, offering affordable accommodation with consistent quality.

For travel professionals, this opening underscores the growing demand for budget-conscious yet well-located urban hotels in key European destinations. The integration of sustainability features also signals a shift in the economy segment toward greener operations.

Industry watchers may also note parallels with other recent expansions in the region, such as Vietnam Airlines' new Ho Chi Minh City–Phuket route, which similarly targets increased connectivity in growing markets.

The ibis budget Barcelona Centre is now open for bookings, offering a new option for agents and corporate travel managers seeking reliable, affordable accommodation in one of Europe's most visited cities.
