Sun Siyam Olhuveli, the Maldives resort in South Malé Atoll, has announced a culinary residency with Indian food creator Kabita Singh, known for her YouTube channel Kabita's Kitchen. The collaboration will mark International Chefs' Day on 20 October 2026, with Singh joining the resort's culinary team for a series of live cooking sessions and tastings.
Singh, who has amassed 14.6 million subscribers on YouTube, will present a curated selection of vegetarian, vegan, and health-conscious dishes that blend her signature Indian cooking style with the resort's Plant Based Bliss philosophy. The programme is designed to give guests an immersive look at the techniques and stories behind her recipes, set against the backdrop of the island's beaches and dining venues.
A meeting of culinary philosophies
The residency is part of Sun Siyam Olhuveli's broader effort to elevate its food and beverage offerings, particularly around plant-forward dining. The resort's Plant Based Bliss initiative emphasises the benefits of plant-based cuisine, and Singh's menu will align with that ethos while introducing guests to the depth of Indian flavours.
Hassan Adil, General Manager of Sun Siyam Olhuveli, said in a statement: “Food is such an important part of the way people connect, and this is about bringing our guests closer to the experience, watching Kabita cook, discovering the flavours and stories behind her dishes, and of course tasting them together.”
Singh's influence extends beyond YouTube. In 2024, she received the Best Creator in Food Category at India's National Creators Award, presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her platform has become one of India's most-followed food channels, with a loyal audience across the subcontinent and the diaspora.
The collaboration comes as Maldivian resorts increasingly target the Indian luxury traveller. Earlier this year, OZEN Collection announced personalised stays aimed at Indian guests, and the Maldives' tourism board has been courting the market amid a broader push for diversification. For Sun Siyam Olhuveli, the residency is a way to differentiate its culinary programming and appeal to food-focused travellers.
International Chefs' Day, celebrated annually on 20 October, is an initiative of the World Association of Chefs' Societies (Worldchefs) to honour the profession and promote culinary education. Resorts and hotels worldwide use the occasion to host special events, and Sun Siyam Olhuveli's partnership with Singh is a notable example of leveraging a digital influencer to drive on-site engagement.
Sun Siyam Olhuveli, part of the Sun Siyam Resorts group, operates a mix of beach villas, water villas, and a range of dining outlets. The resort has been expanding its experiential offerings, from wellness programmes to entertainment, and this culinary residency adds to that portfolio.
For travel professionals, the residency underscores the growing importance of culinary tourism in the Maldives, where resorts are competing not just on overwater villas but on distinctive food experiences. The partnership also highlights the role of social media personalities in shaping travel decisions, particularly among Indian travellers who follow food content closely.
Singh's residency is scheduled to run around the Chefs' Day date, with exact dates and booking details to be announced by the resort. Guests will have the opportunity to watch her cook, learn about her techniques, and sample her dishes in an intimate island setting.
As the Maldives continues to see a rebound in tourism, with arrivals from India among the fastest-growing segments, such collaborations are likely to become more common. The resort's move to bring a digital culinary star on board is a strategic bet on the power of content-driven marketing to attract a younger, food-savvy clientele.
