Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort is positioning its upcoming festive season as more than a standard holiday stay, unveiling a programme that layers Phuket's cultural identity onto classic year-end celebrations. Running from early December through 4 January 2027, the initiative responds to a broader shift in traveller behaviour, where purpose-driven experiences increasingly influence destination and accommodation choices.
According to the Mastercard Economics Institute's Travel Trends report, travellers are prioritising meaningful connections over simple sightseeing. That insight underpins the resort's approach, which blends culinary discovery, local craftsmanship, and beachfront entertainment. General Manager Jirarat Ninpradub said: "Today's travellers are looking for more than a holiday. Our festive programme celebrates the joy of the season alongside Phuket's unique culture, flavours, and creativity."
Weekly events and culinary themes
The resort's Ocean Kitchen Lawn will host a rotating series of evening events. Tuesdays feature the Mai Khao Fisherman Market, while Thursdays are reserved for Beach BBQ evenings. Saturdays showcase authentic Thai cuisine accompanied by live Muay Thai demonstrations, traditional dance, and fire shows. Meanwhile, Js Restaurant will offer Asian and international-themed buffets on Mondays and Fridays, plus a festive afternoon tea service.
These offerings are designed to give guests a taste of Phuket's coastal culture while maintaining the comfort of international holiday dining. The resort's location on Mai Khao Beach, one of the island's quieter stretches, provides a natural backdrop for the programme.
Christmas market and New Year's Eve spectacle
On Christmas Day, the resort will transform its grounds into a Christmas Market featuring handcrafted products from local artisans, seasonal treats, and live music. The market aims to blend European festive charm with Phuket's creative energy, offering guests a chance to engage with the local community.
The season culminates in two signature beachfront events. The Andaman Lumina Soirée on New Year's Eve will feature immersive performances, live music, and a fireworks display over the Andaman Sea. A second event on the beach will round out the programme, providing a final opportunity for guests to celebrate the season in a distinctly Phuket setting.
For travel professionals, the programme reflects a growing trend in the hospitality sector: using local culture as a differentiator during peak travel periods. As Indian travellers increasingly prioritise local experiences abroad, resorts across Asia are adapting their offerings to meet this demand. Le Méridien Phuket's approach could serve as a model for other properties looking to enhance their festive programming.
The resort's strategy also aligns with broader industry moves to integrate experiences into accommodation. Similar efforts are visible in other markets, such as southern Phu Quoc's expansion beyond beach appeal, where cultural and culinary draws are being used to attract longer stays.
For agents and tour operators, the programme offers a concrete example of how to position a resort as a destination in itself, particularly during the holiday season. With the rise of geopolitical friction reshaping how seasoned travellers plan routes, properties that offer immersive, low-friction experiences may gain a competitive edge.
Le Méridien Phuket's festive season runs until 4 January 2027, giving travel sellers a clear window to promote the resort to clients seeking a culturally rich holiday in Thailand.
