Artificial intelligence company Midjourney, Inc. has appointed TLEE Spas + Wellness to conceptualize and develop the guest experience for its first-ever spa, a 24,000-square-foot flagship set to open in San Francisco at the end of 2027. Located at 300 Grant Avenue, steps from Union Square and the Apple Store, the Midjourney Spa will serve as a testbed for blending biometric innovation with traditional spa rituals.

A New Model for Wellness

Midjourney founder and CEO David Holz described the concept as a space where technology recedes into the background. “The Midjourney Spa will feature hot tubs, saunas, cold plunges, and cosy rooms filled with pools of golden light that softly scan your body,” Holz said. “It’s designed as a place you genuinely want to go, alone or with friends. The scans become almost incidental, and you barely think about them when visiting the spa.”

At the heart of the facility are nine full-body ultrasonic scanners developed by Midjourney. These water-based, noninvasive devices use sound waves to visualize internal structures, enabling guests to track health changes over time. The technology is integrated into a broader wellness circuit that includes thermal plunge pools, saunas, a fitness studio, and touchless longevity treatments.

Design and Partnerships

TLEE Spas + Wellness president and managing director Jeanine Allpress-Cliffe emphasized the shift toward holistic, community-driven wellness. “The future of wellness has moved beyond the spa experience, towards a more holistic, community-driven approach,” she said. “There is a need for spaces where people can gather, reconnect and experience wellbeing through the intersection of science, hospitality, nature and meaningful connection.”

The design team includes Basalt, the studio behind Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, and San Francisco-based Rapt Studio. Together, they are shaping an environment where organic forms, natural materials, and soft golden light coexist with advanced technology. A multi-purpose live music room and communal tea offerings further reinforce the social dimension.

Allpress-Cliffe noted that the partnership pushed TLEE to think beyond traditional boundaries. “We leaned into the concept of frequency as medicine and how this is being blended into so many aspects of a spa environment, from sound to light, to water and design, evoking a fully supported sensory experience,” she said. “Midjourney Spa is an innovative blend of what it means to be human in an AI-driven world.”

Industry Implications

For travel professionals, the Midjourney Spa signals a growing convergence of AI, wellness, and hospitality. The project echoes trends seen in hotel wellness programs, such as Mandarin Oriental Macao’s wellness strategy, which has cut staff turnover to a 15-year low, and Garrya Mù Cang Chải’s all-wellness inclusive package in Vietnam. Cruise lines are also investing in wellness at sea, as demonstrated by Crystal Cruises’ four wellness retreats for 2027.

The integration of biometric scanning into a communal spa environment could influence how hotels, resorts, and cruise operators design future wellness facilities. By positioning technology as a subtle enabler rather than a focal point, Midjourney and TLEE are exploring a model that balances data-driven health insights with the emotional and social aspects of wellbeing.

What to Expect

The Midjourney Spa will offer a thermal circuit with plunge pools and saunas, a fitness studio, body scanners, a multi-purpose live music room, communal tea offerings, and touchless longevity treatments. The design aims to create a seamless blend of classic spa amenities and tech-forward wellness, with an emphasis on community gathering and sensory experience.

Holz concluded: “The scans become almost incidental, and you barely think about them when visiting the spa.” This philosophy may well define the next wave of wellness destinations, where AI enhances without overwhelming the human experience.
