National Airlines has expanded its all-cargo fleet with the arrival of a fourth Boeing 777-200 freighter, delivered from Boeing's Everett, Washington, facility. The aircraft, registered N798CA, is set to enter commercial service shortly, giving the carrier additional lift on long-haul routes and greater flexibility for shippers requiring expedited, high-value transport.

The addition underscores National's strategy to grow its global cargo footprint, particularly in sectors such as e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and industrial equipment. With this delivery, the airline now operates four 777-200 freighters alongside nine Boeing 747-400 freighters and a passenger fleet of Airbus A330-300 and A330-200 aircraft.

Expanding long-haul capability

The Boeing 777-200 freighter is a workhorse for long-haul operations, capable of carrying more than 100 tonnes of cargo or flying nearly 5,000 nautical miles nonstop, depending on payload. Its range and payload make it well-suited for connecting major cargo hubs across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Middle East corridors.

Christopher Alf, chairman of National Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of the new aircraft. "With four Boeing 777 freighters now part of our fleet, we have significantly enhanced our long-haul cargo capabilities and our ability to respond to the evolving needs of our customers," he said. Alf also acknowledged the collaboration with Boeing and GE, which facilitated the successful delivery.

The airline, founded in 1991, provides comprehensive logistics, freight forwarding, and charter services from its hubs in Orlando, Frankfurt, and Dubai. It serves a diverse clientele, including defence, e-commerce, and pharmaceutical sectors, with tailored air cargo solutions.

National's expansion comes as global air cargo demand remains robust, driven by e-commerce growth and the need for reliable, time-critical logistics. The new 777 freighter will allow the carrier to offer more capacity on high-demand trade lanes, complementing its existing 747 fleet, which is known for its nose-loading capability for oversized cargo.

Industry observers note that the addition of the 777 freighter gives National a more fuel-efficient and versatile option for medium-to-long-haul routes, potentially opening new market opportunities. The airline has been steadily growing its fleet and network, positioning itself as a key player in the specialised cargo segment.

For travel and logistics professionals, the expansion signals increased competition in the air freight market, particularly for time-sensitive shipments. National's ability to offer both 747 and 777 freighters provides customers with a range of options, from heavy-lift to high-speed deliveries.

As the airline integrates the new aircraft, it will likely focus on routes connecting its hubs with major cargo gateways in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The 777's range allows nonstop operations on many long-haul sectors, reducing transit times and improving reliability.

National Airlines' fleet growth also reflects broader trends in the air cargo industry, where carriers are investing in modern, fuel-efficient freighters to meet sustainability goals and operational efficiency. The 777 freighter, with its advanced aerodynamics and engines, offers lower fuel burn per tonne compared to older aircraft.

With this latest delivery, National Airlines is well-positioned to capitalise on growing demand for air freight, offering shippers a robust and flexible network. The airline's commitment to service and reliability remains central to its operations, as it continues to expand its global presence.
