Omio, the Berlin-headquartered multimodal travel booking platform, has secured a $10 million strategic investment from GraniteIntegral to accelerate its expansion across Japan and Southeast Asia. The funding will be deployed to deepen the company’s transport network in these high-growth markets, strengthen local partnerships, and scale its regional teams — particularly at its AI-focused technology hub in Singapore.

The Asia-Pacific region is projected to be the fastest-growing travel market globally over the next five years, driven by rising outbound travel from China and increasing intra-regional mobility. Omio’s move comes as international traveller numbers in the region continue to rebound, creating demand for integrated booking solutions that connect trains, buses, flights, and ferries.

Japan as a Strategic Priority

Omio has already seen strong traction in Japan following its recent market entry. Travellers are booking journeys along the iconic Golden Route — connecting Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka — as well as more remote destinations. The company has expanded its Japanese transport network through partnerships with major operators such as Japan Railways and Willer Express.

Naren Shaam, Founder and CEO of Omio, highlighted Japan’s complexity as a travel market. “Planning journeys across different operators and transport modes in Japan can be challenging for international visitors,” he said. “With GraniteIntegral’s unparalleled regional expertise, we intend to accelerate a new era of connected travel in Japan.”

GraniteIntegral, known for its deep knowledge of Asia’s travel and technology sectors, will support Omio in refining its customer offerings and growing its presence in these key markets. CK Choun, Co-Head of GraniteIntegral, emphasised the long-term opportunity. “Omio has built a highly differentiated multimodal platform needed to simplify increasingly fragmented travel experiences,” he said.

Expanding the Multimodal Network

Omio’s platform aggregates transport options from over 1,000 operators across more than 40 countries. The company plans to expand into over 70 markets worldwide by 2028, with Japan and Southeast Asia as key priorities. The investment will also fuel the development of AI-driven features to personalise travel recommendations and streamline booking processes.

The company’s expansion aligns with broader trends in the region. For example, Thailand is deepening tourism ties with Western China through new air routes and digital partnerships, while Radisson Hotel Group is accelerating its Southeast Asia Pacific expansion with new openings and a strong pipeline. These developments underscore the growing demand for integrated travel solutions in the region.

Omio’s technology hub in Singapore will play a central role in the expansion, focusing on AI and machine learning to improve route optimisation, pricing, and customer support. The company also plans to hire locally to build a team that understands the nuances of each market.

The investment from GraniteIntegral marks a significant vote of confidence in Omio’s strategy. As travel in Asia-Pacific becomes increasingly multimodal, platforms that can seamlessly connect different transport modes will be well-positioned to capture market share. Omio’s ability to execute on its expansion plans will depend on its capacity to forge strong local partnerships and adapt its technology to diverse regulatory and operational environments.
