Plaza Premium Group (PPG), the Hong Kong-headquartered airport hospitality specialist, has promoted Pascal Bélanger to the role of chief development officer. Bélanger, who will be based in Singapore, takes on responsibility for shaping the company's global development strategy, including identifying new growth opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and overseeing investment decisions. He reports directly to Jonathan Song, chief commercial officer.
From Americas leadership to global role
Bélanger joined PPG in April 2022 and most recently served as senior vice president for the Americas, a position he held from March 2023. In that capacity, he managed operations across North and South America, leading regional expansion and overseeing flagship developments. His team included nearly 2,000 employees across the region.
Before joining PPG, Bélanger held senior roles in the aviation sector, focusing on airport commercial development and infrastructure planning. His appointment signals PPG's continued push to broaden its international footprint and strengthen its airport hospitality ecosystem, which encompasses lounges, transit hotels, and passenger services.
Jonathan Song commented: “As chief development officer, Pascal will assume responsibility for leading Plaza Premium Group's global development strategy, including the identification and assessment of new growth opportunities, the cultivation of strategic partnerships, and the oversight of investment decisions that support our long-term objectives.”
PPG operates the world's largest network of airport lounges, serving approximately 30 million passengers annually. The company has collected more than 177 industry accolades, including the “World's Best Independent Airport Lounge” award from Skytrax for nine consecutive years. Its lounges are present in major hubs such as Hong Kong International Airport, London Heathrow, Singapore Changi, and Dubai International, among others.
The appointment comes as the broader travel industry continues to recover and adapt post-pandemic. Airport hospitality has become an increasingly competitive segment, with airlines and independent operators alike investing in premium lounge experiences. PPG's focus on strategic partnerships and investment evaluation under Bélanger's leadership could see the company expand into new regions or deepen its presence in existing markets.
In related developments, other travel companies have been making executive moves to bolster their growth strategies. For instance, Avia Solutions Group added AJ Abedin to its board as it targets US capital markets, while Cathay Group posted 9% traffic growth in June 2026 despite fuel cost headwinds. Such moves underscore the industry's focus on leadership and strategic expansion.
PPG's decision to base its new chief development officer in Singapore also reflects the importance of the Asia-Pacific region to its growth plans. Singapore is a key aviation hub and a gateway to fast-growing markets in Southeast Asia and beyond. Bélanger's experience in the Americas, combined with his new base in Asia, positions him to bridge regional strategies effectively.
The company's lounge network continues to evolve, with recent openings and refurbishments aimed at meeting changing passenger expectations. PPG has also been investing in technology to enhance the guest experience, from digital check-in to personalized services. As the travel industry increasingly prioritizes premium experiences, PPG's development strategy under Bélanger will be closely watched by competitors and partners alike.
