Qatar has released its 2026-27 events calendar, a comprehensive programme of more than 560 events spanning sports, arts, culture, and entertainment. The initiative, led by Visit Qatar, is designed to position the country as a premier global destination for major events and tourism.

The calendar features headline events such as Formula 1 at Lusail International Circuit and the inaugural Art Basel Qatar, alongside a diverse mix of festivals, exhibitions, and sporting competitions. This strategic move aims to attract international visitors by offering a wide array of experiences, from high-octane motorsport to high-end cultural showcases.

Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, emphasized the country's unique strengths: "Qatar’s strength as a leading tourism destination lies not only in the diversity of experiences it offers, but in its exceptional ability to bring together world-class events, strategic partnerships and seamless experiences."

Beyond Doha: Regional expansion

A key focus of the calendar is to encourage visitors to explore beyond the capital. Events are planned in Lusail City, Al Shamal, and other regions, showcasing the country's diverse landscapes and attractions. For the first time, the Qatar International Food Festival will be held in Lusail City, highlighting the nation's culinary scene and providing a new venue for this popular event.

Autumn is expected to be a particularly active season, with moderate temperatures allowing for outdoor activities such as desert excursions and beach visits. The calendar integrates cultural and sporting events, enabling visitors to craft comprehensive itineraries that combine leisure, culture, and entertainment.

Digital infrastructure and planning

To facilitate event planning, Qatar Calendar will centralise all event information on Visit Qatar's digital platforms. A new digital ticketing platform is slated to launch in late 2026, simplifying access to events for both international and domestic visitors. This move aligns with Qatar's broader strategy to leverage technology in enhancing the visitor experience.

The announcement comes as the Gulf region intensifies its focus on tourism and events. Neighbouring destinations are also ramping up their offerings, such as Abu Dhabi's Yas Island gearing up for a packed Q4 2026. Qatar's calendar, however, stands out for its sheer scale and diversity.

For travel professionals, the calendar presents significant opportunities. Tour operators can build packages around major events, while hoteliers and airlines can anticipate increased demand during peak periods. The integration of cultural and sporting events is particularly appealing for MICE planners looking to offer delegates a rich experience beyond conference sessions.

Qatar's investment in event infrastructure and digital tools is part of a broader trend in the region. As seen with Qatar Airways' recent fleet expansion, the country is committed to enhancing its aviation and tourism capabilities. The new calendar is expected to drive visitor numbers and reinforce Qatar's reputation as a hub for world-class events.

With the launch of the digital ticketing platform in late 2026, Qatar is positioning itself at the forefront of event technology. This move is likely to be closely watched by other destinations seeking to streamline the visitor journey.

As the travel industry evolves, destinations that can offer seamless, diverse experiences will gain a competitive edge. Qatar's 2026-27 calendar is a bold statement of intent, and its success will be measured by the influx of international visitors and the economic impact on the tourism sector.
