Red Sea Global (RSG) has opened Six Senses AMAALA, a new beachfront resort on Saudi Arabia's northwestern coast, with first guests expected in mid-July. This marks the second collaboration between RSG and Six Senses, following the earlier Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea. The resort is part of the broader AMAALA development, which aims to position the region as a leading wellness destination under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.

Regenerative Design and Eco-Initiatives

The resort is built around a natural mangrove lagoon, with design inspired by traditional Saudi coastal architecture. It integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape of beaches, mangroves, and desert mountains. An Earth Lab allows guests to participate in environmental initiatives, including a Junior Mangrove Ecologist programme for younger visitors. John Pagano, Group CEO at RSG, stated: "Every partner we bring into our portfolio is selected because they share our long-term vision of luxury travel with regeneration for people and planet at its centre."

Six Senses AMAALA offers 100 suites and villas, a Six Senses Spa with a Longevity Centre, and three signature restaurants. The property is designed to protect and restore local ecosystems, aligning with RSG's commitment to environmental and social regeneration. This approach is increasingly relevant as the Wellness Tourism Association sets new global standards for the retreat sector.

Strategic Importance for Saudi Tourism

The opening of Six Senses AMAALA is a key milestone in the AMAALA master plan, which will eventually include nine resorts offering over 1,600 hotel rooms. This development is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying the economy and creating new employment opportunities. The resort is expected to attract luxury travellers and wellness tourists, contributing to the Kingdom's growing tourism landscape.

RSG's partnership with Six Senses underscores the trend of luxury hospitality brands focusing on regenerative travel. The resort's Earth Lab and mangrove restoration efforts are examples of how high-end properties can integrate sustainability into guest experiences. This aligns with broader industry movements, such as the WTTC's campaign to identify contemporary wonders of travel.

Implications for Travel Professionals

For travel agents and tour operators, Six Senses AMAALA represents a new luxury option in the Middle East, particularly for clients seeking wellness-focused itineraries. The resort's emphasis on environmental engagement may appeal to eco-conscious travellers. Hoteliers and cruise lines can observe how RSG integrates regeneration into luxury offerings, potentially influencing their own sustainability strategies.

The AMAALA development also highlights the growing importance of Saudi Arabia as a tourism destination. With multiple resorts planned, the region offers opportunities for MICE events and luxury travel. As the Elite Island Resorts contest demonstrates, engaging travel professionals through innovative programmes is key to driving bookings.

Six Senses AMAALA is set to become a benchmark for regenerative luxury travel in the Middle East. Its opening reinforces the trend of high-end resorts prioritising environmental and social impact, a shift that travel professionals should monitor closely.
