Riu Hotels & Resorts has wrapped up a comprehensive renovation of its adults-only Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen, introducing a refreshed design and a new premium tier called Elite Club. The property, which first opened in 1999, now targets upscale leisure travellers with upgraded accommodations, additional dining venues, and a more personalised service model.
Elite Club: a new level of service
The Elite Club category comprises 56 premium rooms, 30 of which feature private pools. Guests in this segment also gain access to a new infinity pool, an exclusive bar, and a dedicated restaurant. Benefits include premium beverages, à la carte breakfasts, and a separate reception area for streamlined check-ins.
“The Elite Club is designed to offer a more intimate and refined experience within the resort,” said a Riu spokesperson. “We’ve seen growing demand for higher-end amenities and personalised attention, and this renovation responds directly to that.”
Redesigned rooms and public spaces
The hotel, situated in the exclusive Playacar area, now features 434 rooms with interiors that emphasise comfort and relaxation. Soft tones, natural wood finishes, and warm lighting create an inviting atmosphere. Each room includes a functional living area with large windows opening onto private terraces or balconies.
The renovation also refreshed public spaces, including lobbies, pools, and lounges, to align with contemporary design trends while maintaining the brand’s signature warmth.
Dining options expand
Dining at Riu Palace Mexico now spans nine restaurants, offering a broad range of cuisines. The international buffet Don Julián remains a staple, while Asian-inspired Miyagi and Italian La Dolce Vita provide regional variety. The new Elite Club restaurant and casual outlets like Tiki Taco and Pepes Grill round out the culinary offering.
For travel advisors, the expanded dining and room categories give more options when pitching the property to clients seeking a premium all-inclusive experience in the Riviera Maya.
Commitment to Quintana Roo
This renovation underscores RIU’s continued investment in Quintana Roo, where the group operates 15 of its 23 Mexican hotels. The company says these properties generate nearly 8,000 jobs in the region. The reopening follows the recent refurbishment of the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun and precedes the launch of a new property in Costa Mujeres.
