Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort has unveiled Hinahina on the Beach, a new all-day oceanfront dining venue that marks the return of buffet dining to Waikiki after a six-year absence. Located on the iconic Greys Beach, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu that draws on coastal flavors and beach culture.
The venue consolidates the former Kai Market and The Edge of Waikiki Bar into a single dining destination. General Manager Tetsuji Yamazaki said, "Hinahina opens an exciting new culinary chapter for Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort and the story of this much-loved stretch of Waikiki's shoreline."
Design and capacity
The interior is designed to accommodate families and groups, featuring large tables and flexible seating. A private dining room, the Shapers Room, offers views of Waikiki Beach, and the venue can host private and semi-private events for up to 250 guests.
Culinary leadership
Executive Chef Darren Demaya, a Hawaii Island native with over 18 years at Sheraton Waikiki, leads the culinary program. The breakfast buffet includes Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes and an omelette station, while lunch features Build-Your-Own Poke Bowls and the Hinahina Burger. Dinner highlights include Giant Tiger Shrimp with Red Thai Lobster Curry Sauce.
The name Hinahina pays homage to the area's history and natural beauty, reflecting the silvery tones of native shoreline plants.
This opening aligns with broader trends in destination dining, as seen in recent initiatives like Seabourn's Earth & Ocean philosophy and Florie's wine dinner series at Four Seasons Palm Beach. For travel professionals, the venue offers a new option for client itineraries in Waikiki, particularly for groups and events.
Sheraton Waikiki is part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio, and the new dining concept is expected to enhance the resort's appeal to both leisure and business travelers. The property's location on Greys Beach remains a key draw, and the buffet format is a notable shift in a market that has moved toward à la carte dining.
For agents and tour operators, Hinahina provides a fresh selling point for Hawaii packages, especially for families and groups seeking a convenient, oceanfront dining experience. The private dining options also position the venue for MICE bookings, complementing the resort's existing meeting facilities.
As the hospitality sector continues to innovate in food and beverage, Sheraton Waikiki's move underscores the importance of distinctive dining experiences in driving guest satisfaction and repeat visits. The resort's investment in this venue reflects a broader industry focus on culinary differentiation.
