Singapore-based travellers are shifting toward longer planning horizons for regional getaways, according to the latest Traveloka SEA Index for Q3 2026. The report, which tracks flight and accommodation booking patterns across Southeast Asia, shows a marked increase in the share of bookings made at least 30 days before departure to key destinations such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
In Q3 2026, 43% of bookings to Vietnam from Singapore were made more than a month in advance, an 11.9 percentage point increase year-on-year. Indonesia followed with a 9.6 point rise to 31%, while Malaysia climbed 5.9 points to 35% and Thailand rose 4.2 points to 42%. These figures indicate a broader trend of more deliberate, planned travel among Singaporeans, a shift that has implications for airlines, hotels, and tour operators serving the region.
Early booking trend extends beyond Southeast Asia
The pattern is not confined to the region. Approximately 20% of bookings to Japan from Singapore were made for travel in 2027, consistent with the previous year's level. This suggests that Singaporeans are also looking further ahead for longer-haul trips, possibly to secure better fares or popular accommodations.
Traveloka's index also highlights growing interest in specific secondary destinations. Searches from Singapore to Bandung, Indonesia, surged 64% year-on-year, while Phú Quốc in Vietnam saw booking volumes outpace growth benchmarks across all five origin markets tracked by the index. These emerging hotspots could become key battlegrounds for airlines and hoteliers looking to capture demand.
The data aligns with broader industry observations about the Singapore outbound market. A recent Skyscanner report noted that Singapore travellers are expected to drive a 2027 boom in purposeful trips, suggesting that planning ahead is becoming a hallmark of the market.
For travel suppliers, the trend toward earlier bookings offers both opportunities and challenges. Airlines can better manage capacity and pricing, while hotels can improve revenue forecasting. However, it also means that last-minute inventory may become scarcer, potentially pushing up prices for spontaneous travellers.
The Traveloka SEA Index Q3 2026 provides a granular look at these shifts, with data broken down by origin market and destination. The full report is available for industry stakeholders seeking to refine their distribution and marketing strategies.
As Singaporeans increasingly plan ahead, destinations that can offer compelling value and unique experiences are likely to benefit. The rise of Bandung and Phú Quốc suggests that travellers are looking beyond the usual hubs, a trend that could reshape regional tourism flows.
Traveloka, a leading travel platform in Southeast Asia, compiles the index quarterly to help industry players understand consumer behaviour. The Q3 2026 edition underscores the importance of data-driven decision-making in a competitive landscape.
