Hospitality Asia convened the sixth edition of the Hospitality Malaysia Conference (HMC) on 24 June at the Connexion Conference & Event Center in Kuala Lumpur, cementing the event's role as the leading B2B platform for Malaysia's tourism and accommodation sectors. The 2026 edition adopted an expanded multi-summit format, drawing 351 attendees from 228 companies across 10 countries.
Local market dynamics dominated, with 84.1 percent of delegates from Malaysia, but the conference maintained a strong regional footprint with participants from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, the Americas, India, Mainland China, the Philippines and Australia. The audience was heavily owner-centric: 40.2 percent represented asset ownership, followed by hotel management and operations, technology and vendors, and design, build and project delivery. Government associations, advisory services, institutional investors, media, F&B, wellness and travel providers completed the delegation.
Three Summits, One Strategic Vision
HMC 2026 featured three concurrent summits powered by 81 expert speakers and supported by 43 sponsors and partners. The Hotel Investment Summit zeroed in on macro-economics, asset valuation and funding structures. A key panel examined how owners can navigate market volatility and align portfolios with shifting demand.
Andrew Khoo, chair and CEO of MUI Group, said: "The core value of this summit lies in the collective exchange of experiences, learning from fellow industry leaders, and gaining a precise understanding of modern traveler and guest expectations. The primary challenge within Malaysian hospitality today is establishing meaningful connections with the right partners. We possess industry passion; by bringing the right stakeholders together, we can seamlessly deliver properties that align with the highest guest expectations."
The Hotel Revenue Summit tackled total revenue management (TRevPAR), dynamic pricing algorithms and distribution strategies. Panels challenged traditional commercial models and offered fresh operational perspectives. Anshui Kumar, director of sales for India and Southeast Asia at Aven Hospitality, remarked: "My ultimate expectation is to support and elevate the vital groundwork being done by hoteliers across the industry. This summit presents a remarkable opportunity to gain deeper strategic insights from peers and partners right from within the heart of the sector."
The Hotel Design Summit explored the physical evolution of spaces, highlighting local craftsmanship and narrative-driven architecture. Discussions focused on maximizing design return on investment (ROI) in urban conversions and resort settings. Ben Gregoire, founder and principal of LEVELS, noted: "Participating in HMC for the first time has provided an invaluable opportunity to gain fresh insights from the panels and view the Malaysian hospitality landscape through a broader strategic lens."
Beyond the stage, dedicated Match & Meet networking sessions facilitated targeted business matchmaking between pre-qualified delegates, owners and developers. The concurrent Exhibition Showcase allowed 43 sponsors and partners to demonstrate cutting-edge solutions in technology, payment systems and guest-experience services. Ezra Wang, director of travel and hospitality for APAC at Sertifi by Flywire, commented: "Marking our inaugural participation at HMC this year, our primary objective was to engage in highly meaningful conversations with the industry stakeholders in attendance. We have already concluded several productive meetings with key hotel operators and owners."
As Malaysia enters its next phase of tourism growth — bolstered by initiatives such as Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and the Malaysia Airlines–Singapore Airlines joint business partnership — HMC 2026 delivered the actionable intelligence, cross-border connections and strategic partnerships needed to lead the industry forward.
