The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has formalised five strategic partnerships with leading Chinese enterprises, aiming to elevate the quality of inbound tourism from China. The agreements were signed on 19 July during the Thai Prime Minister’s official visit to Beijing, involving China Tourism Group, Utour Group, China Comfort Travel Group, Amap, and TCP Group. These collaborations are designed to improve the overall visitor experience while promoting sustainable tourism development.
The pacts fall under the broader Thailand–China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which prioritises economic development, digital technology, and cultural exchange. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated, “By connecting travel businesses, digital platforms and consumer brands, TAT is carrying forward the government’s direction to strengthen confidence, improve the visitor journey and generate sustainable value for Thailand’s tourism industry.”
Scope of the Partnerships
The agreements cover multiple facets of tourism, including tour operations, smart travel, digital services, and brand marketing. With China Tourism Group, TAT will leverage the organisation’s extensive network to promote high-quality Thai tourism products. Utour Group will concentrate on digital promotion and specialised product offerings, while China Comfort Travel Group will enhance destination promotion and service standards.
Amap, a leading digital mapping and navigation platform, will advance smart tourism initiatives, such as integrated travel planning and real-time information services. TCP Group, known for its energy drink brand Krating Daeng, will develop experiences linked to sport, music, and lifestyle under the Energetic Thailand concept. These efforts aim to support safe, convenient, and high-quality experiences for Chinese visitors, creating wider opportunities for Thai tourism businesses.
TAT Deputy Governor Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai highlighted the partnerships’ potential to connect key stages of the Chinese visitor journey, from inspiration and booking to mobility and on-the-ground experiences in Thailand. The initiative underscores TAT’s commitment to China as a critical international market, fostering cultural understanding and economic activity between the two nations.
This development comes amid a broader push to strengthen Thailand’s tourism ties with China. Earlier this year, TAT deepened cooperation with western Chinese provinces through air route expansion and digital partnerships, as reported in Thailand Deepens Tourism Ties with Western China via Air Route Expansion and Digital Partnerships. Meanwhile, China’s inbound tourism surge has exposed service gaps, particularly in digital and language barriers, as detailed in China's Inbound Tourism Surge Exposes Service Gaps as Digital and Language Barriers Persist.
For travel professionals, these partnerships signal a shift toward quality over volume, with an emphasis on digital integration and personalised experiences. Airlines such as Thai Airways and China Southern, hotel groups like Minor International and Accor, and tour operators can expect new opportunities for collaboration as TAT rolls out targeted campaigns and smart travel tools. The focus on sport, music, and lifestyle experiences also opens avenues for MICE and luxury travel segments.
As Thailand continues to position itself as a premier destination for Chinese travellers, these agreements represent a strategic move to enhance service standards and build long-term loyalty. The partnerships are expected to generate measurable outcomes in visitor satisfaction, repeat visitation, and economic impact across the Thai tourism ecosystem.
