Vietjet has unveiled the Vietnam Halal Connect initiative, a coordinated effort to strengthen the country's appeal to Muslim travellers. The announcement came during the Vietnam Halal Tourism Conference 2026, where industry leaders and government officials outlined strategies to grow this segment.
What Vietnam Halal Connect Entails
The initiative brings together airlines, airports, tourism businesses, Halal certification bodies, and technology partners to improve the end-to-end experience for Muslim visitors. Vietjet, which operates over 135 domestic and international routes, sees this as a natural extension of its network linking Vietnam with key markets in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Central Asia—regions with rising demand for Muslim-friendly travel.
Ha Nang Viet, Vietjet’s Commercial Director, stated: “We see strong opportunities to strengthen Vietnam’s appeal among Muslim travellers through better connectivity and services that respond to their evolving travel needs.”
Vietjet plans to expand Halal meal options across its flights and invest in digital travel solutions tailored to Muslim travellers. The airline also aims to uphold internationally recognised Halal standards through partnerships with certification bodies and tourism stakeholders.
Vietnam’s Growing Muslim Travel Market
In 2025, Vietnam welcomed over 21 million international visitors, including approximately 600,000 Muslim travellers. Vietnamese officials highlighted the country's strategic location and diverse tourism offerings as key factors in attracting more visitors from Muslim-majority markets.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to position Vietnam as a competitive destination in the global Halal tourism sector. For travel professionals—from tour operators to hoteliers—this signals a growing opportunity to cater to a demographic that values faith-compliant services.
Vietjet’s move mirrors similar industry trends. For instance, EGYPTAIR’s adoption of IATA NDC 24.4 reflects how carriers are modernising distribution to better serve diverse passenger needs. Meanwhile, MakeMyTrip’s OneCircle loyalty program underscores the importance of tailored offerings in emerging travel markets.
Implications for the Travel Industry
For airlines, the initiative demonstrates how carriers can leverage route networks to tap into niche but growing segments. Vietjet’s focus on Halal certification and digital tools could set a benchmark for other low-cost carriers in the region.
Hoteliers and tour operators should note the emphasis on collaboration across the value chain. Vietnam Halal Connect encourages airports, ground handlers, and hospitality providers to align on service standards—from prayer facilities to Halal food sourcing.
Travel agents and tour operators can expect new package opportunities as Vietjet expands its Halal-friendly offerings. The initiative also opens doors for technology vendors to provide solutions for booking, meal selection, and itinerary planning tailored to Muslim travellers.
Vietjet’s commitment to improving connectivity and collaborating with industry partners positions it as a key player in Vietnam’s Halal tourism push. As the country continues to develop its Muslim-friendly infrastructure, the initiative could serve as a model for other destinations in Southeast Asia.
