Vietnam Airlines has rolled out a new automated inflight entertainment (IFE) microsite, developed by Stellar Entertainment, that lets passengers browse onboard content before departure. The microsite, accessible at lotustar-media.vietnamairlines.com/en, is powered by Stellar's proprietary pixL™ platform, which handles everything from content ingestion to publication without manual intervention.
The pixL™ platform automates the entire workflow, ensuring the microsite stays current with each programming cycle. This is particularly important for Vietnam Airlines, which operates a diverse fleet of 83 aircraft requiring tailored content. Daniel Jacobs, COO at Stellar Entertainment, explained: "Our microsites are integrated with pixL™ and the Stellar IFE Portal, so maintenance is built into how we work, with automated content updates and very few manual touchpoints."
Real-Time Ad Management and Content Control
Beyond content updates, the microsite gives Vietnam Airlines direct control over advertising banners through the Stellar IFE portal. This feature allows the carrier to adjust promotional material independently, responding quickly to commercial opportunities. Tran Thanh Ha, Deputy General Manager of Vietnam Airlines' Inflight Service Division, noted: "Knowing the content updates automatically each cycle, and that our team has direct control over our promotional presence, gives us confidence that what passengers see always reflects where we are today."
Since Stellar Entertainment became Vietnam Airlines' IFE Content Service Provider in January 2026, the airline has significantly expanded its entertainment library, adding a wide range of international films and multilingual content. The new microsite is designed to enhance the pre-flight planning experience, allowing travelers to preview movies, TV shows, and other entertainment options before boarding.
This move aligns with broader trends in the aviation industry, where carriers are increasingly leveraging technology to improve passenger engagement and operational efficiency. For example, Malaysia Airlines and SNCF recently launched an integrated air-rail booking system, demonstrating how digital tools can streamline travel experiences. Similarly, Philippine Airlines has been using flash sales to drive demand, highlighting the importance of agile marketing in the competitive Southeast Asian market.
The automated IFE microsite also reduces the burden on airline staff, freeing them from manual content updates. This efficiency is critical as airlines face rising operational costs, such as those seen with China's Big Three airlines posting a $1.48B Q2 loss due to fuel cost increases. By automating routine tasks, Vietnam Airlines can focus on delivering a superior passenger experience while controlling expenses.
Stellar Entertainment's pixL platform is designed to scale across fleets of any size, making it suitable for both full-service carriers and low-cost operators. The integration with the Stellar IFE Portal ensures that content updates are seamless, and the real-time ad management feature allows airlines to monetize their IFE systems more effectively. This is particularly relevant as the travel industry grapples with rising utility costs driven by AI data centers, which impact everything from hotel operations to airline IT infrastructure.
Vietnam Airlines' adoption of this technology underscores a broader shift toward automated, data-driven IFE systems. As passengers increasingly expect personalized and up-to-date content, carriers that invest in such platforms will likely gain a competitive edge. The microsite is now live, offering travelers a glimpse into the airline's enhanced entertainment lineup before they even step onboard.
