Antalya is accelerating its bid to become a premier global events hub, announcing a packed 2026 calendar that includes the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), and Sports & Events Türkiye. The city, already a major leisure destination on the Turkish Riviera, is leveraging its extensive convention infrastructure to attract business travelers and event organizers from around the world.

Major Conferences and Events

COP31, scheduled for 9–20 November 2026, will bring together climate policymakers, scientists, and industry leaders. The IAC, taking place 5–9 October, will focus on space exploration and technology, drawing aerospace executives and researchers. Sports & Events Türkiye, from 31 May to 3 June, targets sports tourism and event management professionals. These gatherings join a lineup that includes the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, the Runtalya Marathon, the Turkish Airlines Open, and the IX Antalya Fashion Week (2–4 June), which will feature designers from Turkey, Russia, the UAE, and Kazakhstan.

Antalya's convention capacity is a key selling point. With over 300 five-star hotels and more than 175,000 seats across venues, the city can accommodate large-scale events. It previously hosted the G20 Summit, demonstrating its ability to handle high-profile international meetings. The city's mild Mediterranean climate and year-round attractions—from the historic Kaleiçi district to the Lycian Way hiking trail and Blue Flag beaches—add appeal for delegates and their families.

For travel professionals, Antalya's 2026 calendar represents opportunities across multiple sectors. Airlines may see increased demand on routes from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Turkish Airlines, which already operates extensive service to Antalya Airport (AYT), could benefit from conference-related traffic. Hoteliers, including major groups like Rixos, Maxx Royal, and Mardan Palace, are likely to see strong booking volumes during event periods. Tour operators and destination management companies can package pre- and post-conference tours to historical sites such as Perge, Aspendos, and Termessos.

The broader context of global travel in 2026 includes challenges such as inflation, geopolitical conflicts, and anti-tourism sentiment, as noted in Summer 2026: Inflation, Conflicts, and Anti-Tourism Reshape Global Travel. However, Antalya's diversified event strategy may help insulate it from some of these headwinds by attracting business travelers who are less price-sensitive than leisure tourists.

Antalya's push into the MICE segment aligns with broader trends in the hospitality industry. As Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Launches Global Renovation Program Across 20% of Portfolio illustrates, established hotel groups are investing in upgrades to compete for corporate and event business. Antalya's existing inventory of luxury properties gives it a head start, but continued investment in convention facilities and technology will be critical to maintaining competitiveness against other MICE destinations like Dubai, Barcelona, and Singapore.

The city's appeal extends beyond conferences. Its Mediterranean cuisine, outdoor activities, and cultural heritage make it a compelling destination for incentive travel and corporate retreats. The IX Antalya Fashion Week, in particular, highlights the city's multicultural character and could attract luxury travel buyers and media.

For travel agents and tour operators, Antalya's 2026 event calendar offers a chance to create specialized packages. Combining conference attendance with leisure extensions—such as a yacht cruise along the coast or a visit to the ancient city of Olympos—could differentiate offerings in a competitive market. Cruise lines, including those operating in the Eastern Mediterranean, may also see opportunities to add Antalya as a port of call during event periods.

Overall, Antalya's 2026 lineup positions it as a serious contender in the global MICE arena. The city's ability to host simultaneous large-scale events, combined with its established tourism infrastructure, gives it an edge in attracting international business. Travel professionals across aviation, hospitality, and tour operations should monitor booking patterns and consider partnerships to capitalize on the influx of delegates and visitors.
