Buyan Lakeside Villas has officially opened in North Bali, adding a new boutique accommodation option for travellers seeking a quieter, nature-focused stay on the island. Located in the village of Pancasari at 1,300 metres above sea level, the property overlooks the sacred Lake Buyan and is surrounded by mist-covered mountains and tropical rainforest.

The resort comprises five private villas, each named after an Indonesian regency, blending modern comforts with traditional Asian design. The villas are positioned to appeal to couples, families, and wellness travellers who want to escape the crowded coastal areas of Bali.

Facilities include a 15-metre heated swimming pool and the Pepper Lane Café, which serves a menu of Western and Asian dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The property also offers guided fishing trips and access to the Twin Lake Rainforest Track, a trail that connects Lake Buyan with Lake Tamblingan.

Positioning for the highlands market

Cheryl Kwok, Director of Buyan Lakeside Villas, said the property is designed to encourage guests to slow down and reconnect with nature. “We want guests to slow down, reconnect with nature and discover the beauty and culture of the island’s northern highlands,” she said.

The opening adds to a growing list of new villa and retreat properties across Asia, including CV Villas' recent entry into Ireland and Casa Mett Sitges in Spain. For travel agents, Buyan Lakeside Villas offers a distinct product for clients who have already experienced Bali's beach resorts and are looking for a different perspective on the island.

Nearby attractions include the Pura Ulun Danu Beratan water temple and the Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, both of which are popular stops on North Bali itineraries. The property's location in the highlands also provides a cooler climate, which may appeal to travellers during the hotter months.

The villas are designed to cater to a range of guest profiles, from honeymooners to multi-generational families. The spacious living areas and private settings are intended to offer a sense of seclusion, while the on-site café and pool provide amenities without requiring guests to leave the property.

Buyan Lakeside Villas joins a broader trend of boutique and villa properties expanding beyond traditional tourist hubs. For tour operators and agents, the new property could be positioned as a complement to a Bali itinerary, offering a two- or three-night stay in the highlands before or after a coastal beach segment.

The property's emphasis on wellness and nature aligns with current demand for restorative travel experiences, similar to wellness-focused openings such as Ser Casasandra's retreats in Holbox and La Coralina Island House in Bocas del Toro.

With its combination of scenic location, small-scale luxury, and access to cultural and natural attractions, Buyan Lakeside Villas is positioned to attract both leisure travellers and those seeking a slower, more immersive experience in Bali.
