Marriott International has expanded its footprint in eastern Indonesia with the debut of Courtyard by Marriott on Sulawesi Island. The 202-key Courtyard by Marriott Manado, located near Sam Ratulangi International Airport, marks the brand's first entry into the region and positions itself as a key player in the local MICE segment.
MICE Infrastructure and Business Appeal
The hotel features one of Manado's largest convention centres, comprising six meeting rooms, four junior ballrooms, and three Grand Kawanua Ballrooms that can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. This capacity makes it a significant addition for corporate events, weddings, and large-scale social gatherings in North Sulawesi. The property also offers an outdoor swimming pool, a 24/7 fitness centre, and a Kids Club, catering to both business and family travellers.
Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President for Indonesia and Malaysia at Marriott International, said: “The opening of Courtyard by Marriott Manado reflects our commitment to bringing trusted hospitality experiences to key gateway cities across the region.” The hotel's location provides easy access to Manado's business and retail hubs, as well as natural attractions such as Bunaken National Park, Likupang beaches, and the cultural city of Tomohon.
Dining and Guest Experience
Dining options include an all-day restaurant serving local and international cuisine, and The Lobby Lounge for lighter fare. Guestrooms and suites offer modern amenities, with some featuring garden views and private terraces. The property is part of Marriott Bonvoy, enabling members to earn and redeem points for stays.
Bhanu Gupta, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott Manado, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming guests to experience the brand's signature hospitality in North Sulawesi. The hotel's strategic positioning near the airport and key attractions is expected to appeal to a mix of corporate travellers, meeting planners, and leisure tourists exploring the region's dive sites and cultural landmarks.
This opening aligns with broader trends in Southeast Asia, where branded residences and mixed-use developments are gaining traction, as seen in the recent boom in wellness and resort properties. For travel professionals, Courtyard by Marriott Manado offers a new option for group bookings and event planning in a market that has traditionally been underserved by international hotel brands.
The property's convention facilities and proximity to natural attractions also position it as a potential venue for business events that combine work with leisure, a model increasingly favoured by corporate travel buyers. As the MICE sector recovers globally, destinations like Manado are leveraging new infrastructure to attract regional and international meetings.
