Villa Argentina, one of Dubrovnik's most storied hotels, has reopened its doors following a comprehensive renovation that marries its mid-century heritage with contemporary luxury standards. The property, perched on the cliffs near the Old Town, now operates under the umbrella of Adriatic Luxury Hotels and has been inducted into The Leading Hotels of the World collection, a portfolio of more than 450 independent luxury properties worldwide.
Renovation scope and design
The refurbishment spanned over 10,000 square metres and, together with the adjacent Villa Orsula, the combined complex now offers 109 rooms and suites. Croatian architecture studio 3LHD led the design, carefully preserving the hotel's artistic and architectural legacy while introducing modern touches. The interiors draw on Dubrovnik's building traditions, using natural stone and wood, and the surrounding landscape has been enriched with approximately 14,000 plants.
A centrepiece of the renovation is the restoration of the 1967 mosaic Dubrovačke varijacije by Ivo Dulčić, which has been returned to its original location. This piece, along with other artworks, underscores the hotel's commitment to cultural preservation.
"Villa Argentina has been part of Dubrovnik's identity and Croatia's luxury tourism offering for decades," said Philippe Andre Burq, President of the Management Board of Adriatic Luxury Hotels. "With this renovation, we wanted to preserve its unique architecture, artistic heritage and connection to the Dubrovnik landscape."
