Dusit International, the Bangkok-based hospitality group, will open Dusit Princess Ipoh on 1 October 2026. This will be the company's third branded property in Malaysia, following its existing hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The 268-room hotel, owned by Malaysian developer Plenitude Berhad, sits just five minutes from Ipoh's city centre, positioning it as a convenient base for exploring Perak's capital.

Strategic location and market potential

Ipoh, the capital of Perak, is known for its colonial-era architecture, vibrant food scene, and proximity to natural attractions. The city's famous dim sum and Ipoh white coffee draw food enthusiasts, while the Kinta Valley's limestone formations and cave temples offer day-trip opportunities. Chanin Donavanik, Group CEO of Dusit International, highlighted the destination's appeal: "Perak welcomed 23.6 million domestic visitors in 2025, and we see strong potential to attract international travellers seeking authentic Malaysian experiences."

The hotel's location is a key selling point for tour operators and travel agents building itineraries that combine urban heritage with nature excursions. The property will offer five room categories, from Superior Rooms to Family Suites, all equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and smart TVs. An outdoor swimming pool and fitness centre cater to leisure guests, while multiple dining venues include The Atrium, which provides panoramic views of Ipoh's limestone hills.

MICE and events capability

For the corporate segment, Dusit Princess Ipoh features three flexible event spaces, including the 496.8 sq m Kinta Ballroom. This makes the hotel a viable option for regional meetings, conferences, and social events, complementing the growing MICE infrastructure in Malaysia's secondary cities. The property's opening aligns with broader industry calls to lift service standards in Malaysia's hospitality sector, as noted by industry observers.

Dusit International's expansion in Malaysia comes at a time when the country is focusing on boosting visitor value rather than just arrivals. As Eric Levy has argued, Malaysia must shift from counting arrivals to enhancing per-visitor spending. The new Ipoh property, with its mix of leisure and business facilities, is positioned to contribute to that goal.

Opening offer and booking details

To mark the opening, Dusit Princess Ipoh is offering special rates starting at $57 (approximately RM 230) per night, including food and beverage credits. The promotional rate is valid until 31 December 2026, giving travel agents and corporate bookers a window to introduce clients to the property.

The hotel's debut also reflects Dusit International's broader strategy of expanding its Dusit Princess brand in Southeast Asia. With the region's travel recovery continuing, the group is betting on secondary cities like Ipoh to capture demand from both domestic and international travellers. For agents, the property adds a new option in a destination that has historically been underserved by international hotel brands.

Travel technology is also evolving in Malaysia, with innovations like Roomie's hotel-specific payment gateway aiming to streamline transactions. Dusit Princess Ipoh will likely benefit from such advancements as it integrates with booking systems and payment platforms.

As Malaysia continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, the opening of Dusit Princess Ipoh signals confidence in Perak's potential. The hotel's combination of location, amenities, and competitive pricing makes it a noteworthy addition for travel professionals planning itineraries in the region.
