Emirates is heading into the northern winter season with a robust order book, underpinned by a wide-ranging fleet and cabin upgrade programme. The Dubai-based carrier carried more than 8.6 million passengers across July and August, and arrivals into Dubai in late August climbed 7% compared with the same period last year. Capacity is now at 93% of pre-disruption levels, and forward demand is building as the peak travel period approaches.

Central to the airline's winter strategy is the retrofit of its widebody fleet. To date, 104 aircraft have been upgraded — 53 Boeing 777s and 51 Airbus A380s — with new cabins, refreshed interiors, and the latest seat products. Premium Economy is now available on 137 aircraft, and Emirates plans to extend that to 155 by the end of December. The carrier has also introduced the Udream headrest in Economy Class and added privacy dividers to Premium Economy seats, responding to growing demand for more personal space on long-haul flights.

Network expansion and new routes

Emirates continues to widen its network, with Helsinki joining the route map on 1 October. Additional frequencies have been added to Accra, Tokyo Narita, and Ho Chi Minh City, giving travel agents and corporate clients more flexibility on key business and leisure corridors. The airline's Airbus A350 fleet will serve 36 destinations by year-end, including new services to Larnaca, Malta, Nairobi, and Hamburg.

The expansion is not limited to passenger services. Emirates SkyCargo has been boosting its freighter network in India to support export growth, a move that complements the passenger side and strengthens the carrier's position as a logistics hub. For travel professionals, the combination of new routes and increased frequencies opens up more options for clients, particularly in markets where premium demand is rising.

The partnership with flydubai remains a cornerstone of Emirates' connectivity strategy. Together, the two carriers offer access to more than 214 unique destinations, and since the partnership launched in 2017, it has carried over 28 million passengers. This collaboration is particularly valuable for agents and tour operators looking to build complex itineraries that combine Emirates' long-haul network with flydubai's regional reach.

Premium travel demand drives investment

Emirates' investment in premium cabins reflects a broader industry trend. As business travel recovers and high-net-worth individuals seek more comfort, airlines are racing to upgrade their hard products. Emirates' retrofit programme is one of the largest in the industry, and the expansion of Premium Economy is a direct response to passenger feedback and booking data.

The airline's focus on premium travel is also evident in its recruitment drive. Emirates recently announced plans to hire cabin crew in Singapore as its fleet expansion accelerates, signalling confidence in sustained demand. For travel advisors, this means more capacity and more options for clients seeking a premium experience on routes to Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Industry observers note that Emirates' winter performance will be closely watched as a bellwether for the wider premium travel market. With capacity approaching pre-disruption levels and a growing network, the airline is well positioned to capture demand from both leisure and business travellers. The addition of new A350 routes to secondary European cities like Larnaca and Malta also suggests a strategy to tap into underserved markets.

For hoteliers, cruise lines, and tour operators, Emirates' expanded schedule offers more opportunities to package holidays and business travel. The airline's partnership with flydubai, in particular, enables seamless connections to secondary cities across the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, making it easier for agents to build multi-stop itineraries.

As the winter season unfolds, Emirates' ability to maintain its fleet upgrade pace and network growth will be key. The carrier has already demonstrated resilience in the face of disruption, and its current momentum suggests a strong finish to the year. For travel professionals, the message is clear: Emirates is investing heavily in product and network, and that translates into more options and better experiences for their clients.
