Emirates has crossed the one-million mark for Starlink Wi-Fi connections just seven months after introducing the service, signaling strong demand for high-speed inflight internet among its passengers. The carrier now offers the service on 33 Boeing 777 and three Airbus A380 aircraft, covering more than 60 daily flights across its network.
Data usage has already exceeded one petabyte, with passengers across all cabins streaming video, joining video calls, browsing social media, and staying in touch with family and colleagues. Many have described the connectivity as better than at home, a benchmark that underscores the leap from earlier-generation systems.
Expanding Fleet Coverage and Bandwidth
Emirates first introduced internet access on the A380 using first-generation technology. The current Starlink-equipped A380s deliver more than 2 Gbps of bandwidth, enabling a seamless experience for every passenger on board. The airline is accelerating installations at its engineering facilities in Dubai to equip more aircraft quickly.
This rollout is part of a broader customer experience overhaul that includes a comprehensive cabin refurbishment programme across the fleet. Emirates also offers complimentary Dubai hotel stays for summer 2025 bookings, as detailed in this article.
Live TV Streaming on Ice
Emirates plans to integrate live TV streaming into its award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice. This will allow passengers to watch real-time broadcasts, including sports and news, directly from their seatback screens. The move follows a similar initiative by United Airlines, which recently launched live TV streaming on Starlink-equipped aircraft via DIRECTV, as covered in this report.
The airline remains committed to offering complimentary, ultra-fast Wi-Fi to as many passengers as possible, with installations continuing at a rapid pace. Emirates has been a leader in onboard connectivity, and the Starlink milestone reinforces its position in the premium travel segment.
For travel professionals, the rapid adoption of Starlink highlights a growing expectation among passengers for reliable, high-speed internet at 35,000 feet. Airlines that fail to invest in modern connectivity risk losing ground to competitors like Emirates and United, which are setting new standards for inflight digital experiences.
Emirates' broader efforts to enhance the passenger journey also include partnerships with luxury brands. The airline recently launched its 18th amenity kit collection with Bulgari for premium cabins, as noted in this piece.
With Starlink installations now underway at Dubai's engineering base, Emirates expects to expand coverage to more aircraft in the coming months, further cementing its reputation as a technology-forward carrier in the global aviation industry.
