Emirates has introduced a new travel insurance product, Comprehensive Travel Cover, which it describes as the first of its kind in the airline industry. The offering is now available to passengers in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, with plans to expand to additional markets.

The policy includes conflict-related medical coverage of up to US$25,000, a complimentary 30-day trip extension, and support during travel disruptions regardless of government travel advisories. This feature is particularly relevant for travellers heading to regions with volatile security situations, such as those planning trips connected to major events like the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Passengers can purchase the cover via emirates.com or add it to existing bookings. The product covers trip cancellation, compensation for baggage delay or loss, and unlimited medical expense and emergency evacuation coverage worldwide. Emirates also offers airline-managed hotel stays and rebooking on alternative carriers at no extra cost if flights are disrupted.

Industry Context and Executive Commentary

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, stated, “Listening to customer feedback, we realised that travel demand remains strong but there was a gap in the market with regards to travel insurance cover. Therefore, we acted to address our customers’ needs.” The move positions Emirates ahead of competitors like Etihad, which recently partnered with DCT Abu Dhabi to offer free medical insurance for international visitors, as reported in Etihad and DCT Abu Dhabi Launch Free Medical Insurance for International Visitors.

Russel Antonio, Head of Global Business & Partnerships at Travel Guard, added, “This new comprehensive travel product offers enhanced protection that sets a new benchmark in the industry.” Travel Guard, a subsidiary of AIG, is the underwriting partner for the Emirates product.

The launch comes as the travel industry prepares for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which is expected to drive significant demand for flights to North America. Emirates has already announced plans to broadcast every match live inflight via Sport 24, as covered in Emirates to Broadcast Every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Live Inflight via Sport 24. The new insurance product could appeal to fans booking travel to host cities such as Vancouver and New York, where early bookings from Singapore are already trending, according to Singapore Fans Book Early for World Cup 2026, Favoring Vancouver and New York.

For travel agents and tour operators, the Comprehensive Travel Cover offers an additional revenue stream and a value-add for clients. The product's conflict-related coverage addresses a gap that many standard travel insurance policies exclude, making it particularly attractive for business travellers and those visiting regions with travel advisories.

Emirates' initiative aligns with broader industry trends toward integrated travel protection. As airlines and hospitality providers seek to differentiate their offerings, insurance products are becoming a key component of the customer experience. The Dubai-based carrier's move may prompt competitors such as Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines to evaluate similar offerings.

The policy is available for single trips and annual multi-trip plans, with pricing varying by destination and duration. Emirates has not disclosed specific premium ranges but confirmed that the product is designed to be competitive with standalone travel insurance providers.

For travel professionals, the development underscores the importance of advising clients on comprehensive coverage, especially for long-haul itineraries. The Emirates product is now live and can be integrated into booking workflows via the airline's website and GDS systems.
