EVA Air has confirmed it will begin nonstop service between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport on 1 December 2026. The route will operate five times weekly using Airbus A330-300 aircraft, positioning the carrier as the only Taiwan-based airline to offer direct passenger flights to India.
The new service is a strategic addition to EVA Air's network, which already links Asia with North America through its Taipei hub. By adding Delhi, the airline aims to capture growing demand for travel between India and the United States and Canada, particularly among business travellers, students, and tourists.
Strengthening India-Taiwan business ties
EVA Air President Clay Sun highlighted the significance of the route in a statement: “The launch of nonstop Taipei－Delhi service represents an important milestone in EVA Air’s network development.” The airline expects the route to support the expanding manufacturing, semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and technology sectors that have been driving bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and India.
For Indian travellers, the new flights offer a convenient alternative to current itineraries that require connections through other Asian gateways. Through EVA Air's partnership with Star Alliance member Air India, passengers can connect beyond Delhi to major Indian cities, while Indian nationals can access EVA Air's extensive North American network via Taipei.
Eligible Indian nationals travelling to the US or Canada can take advantage of Taiwan's conditional visa-waiver transit programme, which allows short stopovers in Taiwan without a visa. This could make Taipei an attractive transit point for Indian travellers heading across the Pacific.
To cater to leisure travellers, EVA Air will offer escorted tours featuring UNESCO World Heritage Sites and cultural experiences in India, available exclusively through travel agencies in Taiwan. This move is expected to boost outbound tourism from Taiwan to India, a market that has been underserved by direct air links.
EVA Air, a Star Alliance member founded in 1989, operates a fleet of over 80 aircraft to around 60 international destinations. The airline continues to expand its network strategically, with a focus on high-demand routes that strengthen its position as a leading carrier between Asia and the Americas.
The Delhi route is part of a broader trend of airlines adding India connections to meet rising demand. For example, Riyadh Air's recent expansion into Southeast Asia reflects the growing importance of the region, while Philippine Airlines' plans for daily Manila-San Francisco flights show how carriers are optimising their long-haul networks.
Travel agents and tour operators should note that the new Taipei-Delhi service will open up new possibilities for itineraries combining India, Taiwan, and North America. The conditional visa-waiver programme could also make Taipei a popular stopover point for Indian travellers, potentially boosting tourism to Taiwan.
With the launch date set for December 2026, EVA Air is giving the travel trade ample time to plan and promote packages around the new route. The airline's commitment to premium service and its strong hub in Taipei are likely to make this a competitive option for both business and leisure travellers.
