Expedia Group has introduced Autonomous Onboarding, a new capability designed to let hotels join its marketplace in under 24 hours by leveraging the property management or channel manager software they already use. The announcement, made today, marks a significant step in the company's broader push toward autonomous distribution, aiming to remove friction from the supplier onboarding process.
With Autonomous Onboarding, hotels no longer need to undergo a separate, manual setup. Instead, the system automatically transfers and validates key property data—such as room types, rates, and amenities—directly from the hotel's existing software. This streamlined approach gives properties immediate access to Expedia Group's consumer brands, a B2B network of more than 75,000 partners, and 200,000 travel advisers, as well as AI-powered travel experiences.
Chris Hodges, Vice President of Global Connectivity & Partner Solutions at Expedia Group, emphasized the value proposition: "Adding a new source of demand should not add a new layer of work. Autonomous Onboarding makes it much easier for properties to join Expedia Group through the technology they already use."
Built with launch partners
The feature was developed in collaboration with five launch partners: HotelRunner, Yanolja Cloud Solutions, RoomCloud, RateGain, and Eviivo. These technology providers have integrated their platforms with Expedia's system, enabling their hotel clients to activate distribution with minimal effort. For example, a property using RateGain's channel manager can now connect to Expedia without re-entering inventory or rate information.
This initiative is the first phase of Expedia Group's vision for a more intelligent and streamlined distribution lifecycle. By automating routine tasks, the company aims to reduce manual processes and allow hoteliers to focus on guest experience and revenue management. The move also aligns with broader industry trends toward connectivity and automation, as seen in recent partnerships like the RateHawk-Agoda supply link.
For travel professionals, the implications are clear: faster onboarding means quicker access to Expedia's global demand, which can be particularly valuable for independent hotels and smaller chains that lack dedicated connectivity teams. The tool also supports the growing emphasis on direct booking and channel management efficiency.
Expedia Group's announcement comes amid a wave of technology-driven initiatives across the travel sector. For instance, Plaza Premium Group's new kids' zones and Radisson's extended Manchester Airport lease highlight how companies are enhancing traveler experiences and operational footprints. Meanwhile, Austrian Airlines' wine program shows how airlines are differentiating their onboard offerings.
As the travel industry continues to evolve, innovations like Autonomous Onboarding are poised to offer significant advantages to properties seeking to tap into global travel demand efficiently. The reduction in manual processes not only saves time but also minimizes errors, ensuring that hoteliers can present accurate and competitive offerings to Expedia's vast audience.
Hodges added, "We're excited to see how this first phase will transform the way hotels connect with us, and we look forward to expanding these capabilities across our distribution ecosystem."
