Explora Journeys has unveiled the inaugural Alaska season for its upcoming vessel, Explora III, scheduled to launch on 24 July 2026. The ship will operate a series of seven-night itineraries from May to September 2027, marking the brand's first foray into the region. The collection combines iconic natural landmarks with lesser-visited coastal communities, designed for travellers seeking immersive, unhurried exploration.
Itinerary Highlights and Themed Experiences
The Alaskan Journeys Collection is built around four thematic pillars: glacial encounters, wildlife observation, fjord and rainforest landscapes, and cultural storytelling. Each itinerary includes calls at ports such as Juneau, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Prince Rupert, Seward, and Skagway.
In Juneau, guests can take helicopter flights over the Juneau Icefield to explore Mendenhall Glacier. At Hubbard Glacier, catamaran excursions bring passengers close to North America's largest tidewater glacier, where calving ice creates dramatic spectacles. In Wrangell, jet boat tours navigate toward LeConte Glacier Bay or Shakes Glacier, with opportunities to spot harbour seals and eagles.
Wildlife-focused experiences include floatplane journeys into Tongass National Forest from Ketchikan to observe black bears fishing for salmon, and late-season whale watching in Prince Rupert, where humpbacks, orcas, and porpoises are common. Juneau itineraries combine marine wildlife viewing with guided rainforest hikes toward Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls.
Cultural immersion is a key component. In Prince Rupert, the Kitsumkalum community welcomes guests with drumming, dance, and a nomadic gastronomy experience in the Great Bear Rainforest. Skagway offers vintage rail journeys retracing the Klondike Gold Rush route to White Pass Summit.

Ship Features and Onboard Enhancements
Explora III spans 14 decks and accommodates 461 oceanfront suites, penthouses, and residences, all with floor-to-ceiling windows and private sun terraces. The ship includes heated pools, indoor whirlpools, and a 700-square-metre spa. New culinary concepts debut aboard, including the poolside Shore Club on Deck 11, an immersive Chef's Table, and The Cellar. Returning favourites such as Sakura and Marble & Co. are also available, alongside 12 bars and lounges.
The Alaska deployment aligns with broader industry trends in the region. Royal Caribbean Group recently opened Alaska’s largest cruise terminal in Seward, featuring shore power and year-round community use, while HX Expeditions is marking 130 years with Alaska voyage discounts. Explora Journeys positions its product as a luxury alternative, emphasising small-group excursions and extended time in port.
Bookings for the 2027 season are now open. The itineraries are expected to appeal to luxury travellers and agents seeking differentiated Alaska experiences beyond standard cruise offerings.
