German vacation rental platform Holidu has completed its 14th acquisition, purchasing Dutch specialist Gites.com to strengthen its footprint in France and the Netherlands. The deal adds approximately 4,000 holiday rentals across France, primarily serving domestic French travelers and Dutch visitors, a market that has become one of Holidu's fastest-growing booking sources.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the acquisition reflects a broader strategic shift in travel technology: companies are increasingly using acquisitions combined with AI-driven integration tools to scale faster rather than building supply market by market. Europe's vacation rental sector remains one of the most fragmented in travel, with hundreds of trusted local booking portals serving individual countries and regions. Rather than replacing these platforms, Holidu acquires them and uses technology to consolidate inventory, operations, and distribution into a single digital ecosystem.

AI as the Integration Engine

Artificial intelligence now plays a central role in that strategy. Holidu has developed an integration framework that significantly reduces the time and complexity of bringing newly acquired businesses onto its technology platform. The company reports that acquisitions already account for nearly one-third of its accommodation supply growth in 2026, highlighting how mergers are becoming as important as organic expansion.

According to Johannes Siebers, co-founder and CEO of Holidu, the European holiday rental market remains fragmented and has many local portals built on years of trust with their hosts and guests. Operating across many regions, Holidu lets build things a regional player never could. The acquisition of Gites.com gives property owners access to wider distribution and digital management tools, while travelers benefit from a larger, more seamlessly connected inventory.

For property owners, the deal is expected to simplify operations while expanding market reach. Marijn Bom, co-founder and CEO of Gites.com, said joining Holidu would provide hosts with greater visibility while reducing administrative work through improved digital tools and automation. This aligns with a broader shift in the vacation rental sector, where hosts are increasingly seeking technology platforms that can automate pricing, distribution, guest communication, and property management while maintaining local support.

The acquisition continues an active period for Holidu, which earlier this year acquired German holiday rental platform BestFewo, following several purchases throughout 2025, including Finca Mallorca and Cybevasion. The company also raised €46 million in funding last year to support product development and international expansion.

This deal is part of a larger trend reshaping travel technology. As artificial intelligence rapidly improves automation, data integration, and platform scalability, travel companies are using acquisitions to enter new markets while relying on AI to integrate businesses more efficiently than ever before. Rather than simply adding inventory, companies are building larger connected ecosystems capable of delivering smarter distribution, greater efficiency, and better experiences for both travelers and accommodation providers.

For travel professionals—whether hoteliers, tour operators, or travel agents—the consolidation of vacation rental supply under AI-powered platforms like Holidu signals a shift toward more automated, data-driven distribution. As the European vacation rental market continues to consolidate, platforms that can integrate local expertise with global technology will likely define the next phase of growth.
