On Greenland National Day (Ullortuneq), HX Expeditions has announced the extension of its HX Greenland Promise to all Greenland sailings in 2027, providing travel professionals and their clients with enhanced booking flexibility. The move builds on the promise first introduced in January 2025 for 2026 departures, now covering the full 2027 programme including dedicated East Greenland and West Greenland itineraries, as well as broader expedition voyages that call on Greenlandic ports.
Under the terms, if HX cancels a Greenland sailing in 2026 or 2027, or if government advice against travel to the destination impacts the voyage, guests may transfer to another HX expedition, receive an additional 20% Future Cruise Credit, or opt for a full refund. Full terms are available via HX booking channels and the company’s website. This reassurance is particularly valuable for Arctic travel, where weather, ice conditions, and geopolitical factors can shift rapidly.
Gebhard Rainer, CEO of HX Expeditions, stated: “Greenland is one of the most extraordinary destinations anywhere in the world, and 2027 is a fantastic time to experience it with HX. Guests can expect awe-inspiring landscapes, deep cultural connection, and the confidence that comes from travelling with one of the most experienced expedition operators in the region. By extending the HX Greenland Promise to all Greenland sailings in 2027, we are giving travellers even more reassurance to book with confidence.”
HX remains the largest expedition cruise operator in Greenland by passenger numbers, according to Air Greenland, and holds the leading market share in the Arctic expedition cruise sector per Cruise Industry News. In 2025 alone, the company brought more than 2,500 guests to the destination. The company’s operational ties include a longstanding partnership with the Association of Greenlandic Children, supported by the HX Foundation, which has funded youth programmes, summer camps, and educational initiatives over the past seven years.
Alongside the booking policy extension, HX launched Kalaallit: Portraits of Greenland, a four-part YouTube storytelling series that centres Greenlandic voices. The series features individuals such as Jacob-Peter, a kayak maker; Sara-Marie, a dressmaker reflecting modern Greenlandic identity; and Arnaaraq-Batseba, a village host in Itilleq who offers glimpses into daily life and traditional cooking. Karin Strand, VP of Expedition Development for HX and Greenland product owner, explained: “Rather than telling Greenland’s story from the outside, we wanted Greenlanders to share their own personal perspectives, experiences and connections to their home, giving audiences a more human, honest and meaningful introduction to this remarkable destination.”
For travel advisors and tour operators, the extended promise and authentic storytelling content provide tools to build client confidence in booking Arctic itineraries. The flexibility terms mirror similar risk-reduction offers seen across the expedition cruise sector, but HX’s deep local ties and market leadership in Greenland give it a distinct advantage. As HX also marks 130 years with Alaska voyage discounts, the company continues to reinforce its position in polar expedition cruising.
Greenland remains a frontier destination for many travellers, and HX’s combination of operational scale, community partnerships, and booking flexibility positions it strongly for the 2027 season. With new itineraries and a focus on authentic cultural connection, the company aims to convert interest into bookings among both adventurous and thoughtful travellers.
