Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong is rolling out a festive programme designed to draw family travellers this December. The hotel's Enchanted Adventure centres on Santa's Secret Kingdom, a one-hour interactive experience where guests help solve a mystery that threatens Santa's Christmas tradition. The activity includes a musical game, a paper lantern workshop, and an arts and crafts session.

Tickets for Santa's Secret Kingdom are priced between HK$648 (US$83) and HK$748 (US$96), with sales opening 3 October via Shangri-La Boutique. The experience is aimed at families seeking a structured, immersive holiday activity within the hotel.

Meet Santa and festive photo opportunities

From 28 November to 26 December, the hotel will host a Meet Santa event in its lobby. Families can have a keepsake photograph taken with Santa and receive a gift. Sessions cost HK$398 (US$51) on weekends and HK$358 (US$46) on weekdays for up to four guests. Tickets go on sale 2 November.

The hotel is also bundling the experience into a two-night stay package called the Questers Enchanted Adventure Christmas Package. It includes a themed family suite, daily breakfast, a surprise visit from Santa, access to hotel amenities, workshops, hotel credit, and festive treats.

Island Shangri-La's push comes as Hong Kong competes for holiday travellers across Asia. The property joins a broader trend of luxury hotels creating exclusive seasonal programming to differentiate themselves. Similar efforts are visible elsewhere, such as Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi's Austrian Lebkuchen addition and InterContinental Chiang Mai's autumn events.

For travel agents and tour operators, the package offers a ready-made family product that combines accommodation, dining, and entertainment. The hotel's location in Admiralty, near Hong Kong Park and the Peak Tram, also positions it as a base for exploring the city.

Island Shangri-La has not disclosed expected occupancy or revenue figures, but the initiative reflects a broader industry focus on experiential travel. As Nassau & Paradise Island's winter lineup shows, destinations are increasingly using events to attract visitors during off-peak periods.

The hotel's festive programme is part of a wider strategy to appeal to family travellers, a segment that has shown resilience in Asia. With the holiday season approaching, properties like Island Shangri-La are betting on unique, interactive offerings to stand out.
