The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal has unveiled its 2026 festive season programme, blending traditional holiday cheer with a distinctive Austrian culinary heritage. From mid-December through early January, the property will host a series of dining events, family activities, and gala celebrations designed to appeal to both local residents and international guests.

A sweet nod to history

This year, the hotel introduces Pirker Lebkuchen, a traditional Austrian honey cake with roots tracing back to 1826. The spice blend used in the Lebkuchen—cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom—reflects the historic trade routes that connected the Middle East and Europe, making its arrival in Abu Dhabi a symbolic full-circle moment. The confection will be featured across the hotel's festive offerings, from afternoon tea to gift boxes.

“We are delighted to bring this piece of Austrian tradition to Abu Dhabi,” said the hotel's general manager, in a statement. “Pirker Lebkuchen is more than a festive treat; it tells a story of cultural exchange that resonates with our international clientele.”

Festive dining and family experiences

The hotel's signature Alba lounge will host a Festive High Tea from 15 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, priced at AED 190 (approximately $52) per person. The menu includes a selection of sweet and savoury bites, alongside seasonal teas and coffees. For families, the hotel offers gingerbread house decorating sessions for children, providing a hands-on holiday activity.

Christmas Day dining options span multiple venues: Giornotte will serve a festive brunch, while The Forge, Li Jiang, and Mijana will offer curated dinner menus with live entertainment. Each restaurant brings its own culinary identity—from steakhouse classics to Cantonese and Middle Eastern specialties—ensuring a diverse range of choices for guests.

For those preferring to celebrate at home, the hotel's Turkey Takeaway service delivers a fully prepared festive turkey with all the trimmings for AED 750 (approximately $204). This option caters to the growing demand for premium at-home dining experiences during the holidays.

New Year's Eve and beyond

New Year's Eve will feature gala dinners and live entertainment across the property, with special overnight packages available for guests wishing to extend their stay. The celebrations continue into the new year with an Orthodox Christmas dinner at Giornotte on 6 and 7 January 2027, featuring traditional dishes and desserts.

The festive programme aligns with a broader trend of luxury hotels in the Gulf enhancing their seasonal offerings. Similar initiatives are underway at other properties, such as Le Méridien Phuket's cultural festive programme and Atlantis Dubai's 2026 upgrades. As the region's hospitality sector continues to invest in unique guest experiences, the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi's blend of tradition and innovation positions it well for the peak travel season.

Travel professionals advising clients on Gulf itineraries should note the hotel's extended festive calendar, which offers opportunities for both leisure and corporate groups. The inclusion of Orthodox Christmas dates also caters to a diverse international audience, reflecting Abu Dhabi's multicultural visitor base.

For agents and operators, the hotel's festive packages provide a ready-made product for clients seeking a luxury holiday experience in the UAE capital. With the Etihad Rail connection now linking Dubai and Abu Dhabi in just over an hour, the property is more accessible than ever for day-trippers and extended stays alike.
