The Museum of Illusions is expanding its U.S. footprint with a new Sacramento venue, its first in Northern California. Opening on 6 November at 405 K Street, Suite 125, the 10,000-square-foot space becomes the brand's 72nd location worldwide and its third in California, after San Diego and Santa Monica.
Designed to blend entertainment with education, the museum offers immersive rooms, standalone illusions, and holograms that challenge visitors' perceptions. Exhibits are hands-on, revealing the science behind visual tricks—a format that has proven popular with families, corporate groups, and tourists alike.
Sacramento's Gold Rush history inspires exhibits
Kim Schaefer, CEO of Museum of Illusions, highlighted the local connection: "Sacramento's history is full of illusions. This is a place where families, friends, and coworkers can step inside an illusion together and leave with a story and a photo to match."
Signature exhibits include the Building Illusion, Following Eyes, and Reverse Room, all incorporating elements of the city's Gold Rush heritage. The venue will also feature Illusion Experts on-site to help visitors capture memorable photos and understand the mechanics behind each display.
The opening adds a new attraction to Sacramento's downtown tourism offerings, which have been growing with the redevelopment of the K Street corridor. For travel professionals, the museum represents a potential group and MICE draw, given its interactive format and central location.
To celebrate the launch, the museum is offering a Book Early Offer with buy-one-get-one-free tickets available until 5 November. A Grand Opening Offer provides 20% off tickets from 6 November to 4 December. General admission is priced at $30 for adults and $26 for children aged 5 to 12.
Operating hours are 10 am to 9 pm Sunday through Thursday, and 10 am to 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue is expected to attract both local residents and visitors exploring the state capital.
Museum of Illusions has been expanding rapidly across the globe, with locations in major cities and tourist destinations. The Sacramento site joins a network that includes venues in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as other U.S. cities. The brand's growth reflects a broader trend in experiential attractions, which are increasingly important for destination marketing and tour itineraries.
For travel agents and tour operators, the new museum offers an additional option for group bookings and family-friendly activities in Sacramento. Its educational angle also aligns with school trips and corporate team-building events.
As the museum sector continues to innovate, Sacramento's new venue underscores the appeal of interactive, photo-friendly experiences. Similar attractions have boosted foot traffic in other cities, and the Museum of Illusions is betting on that formula in Northern California.
