Six Flags Magic Mountain has confirmed plans for Thrill Glider, a pioneering coaster that will debut in 2027. Developed by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma, the ride introduces a new category—the Thrillglider—merging flying motorbike and suspended coaster technologies for the first time in the industry.

Thrill Glider's hovercycle vehicles position riders prone, face-forward beneath the track, simulating a low-altitude flight experience. The custom terrain-following layout spans nearly 3,380 feet and includes 20 unique track elements, delivering 12 airtime moments and five inversions. Speeds reach 50 mph, amplified by onboard audio and lighting effects designed to heighten the sensation of speed.

The attraction will claim multiple world records: the first multi-launch Thrillglider, the longest and fastest in its category, and the most inversions on any Thrillglider. Its narrative immerses guests in the world of QuantumPulse Propulsion Systems, a fictional tech company, with a pre-ride experience in The Futurist Pavilion.

Strategic significance for the park

Brian Oerding, park president of Six Flags Magic Mountain, said: "Thrill Glider is more than a new attraction. It is the latest milestone in Six Flags Magic Mountain's renaissance and a reflection of the park's enduring role as an industry innovator." The ride occupies the former Golden Bear Theatre site, a nod to the park's history while pushing its future-forward positioning.

For travel professionals, this development underscores the growing trend of experience-led investments in theme parks and destination entertainment. As operators like Six Flags continue to differentiate through cutting-edge attractions, the ripple effects are felt across regional tourism, hotel bookings, and MICE itineraries. The park's proximity to Los Angeles makes it a key draw for domestic and international visitors, particularly those seeking high-adrenaline experiences.

Thrill Glider's minimum height requirement of 48 inches broadens its accessibility, appealing to families and younger thrill-seekers. The ride's launch is expected to generate significant media attention, potentially boosting visitation to the Valencia, California area.

This announcement follows a series of innovations across the attractions sector, from loyalty revamps in cruise lines to MICE strategies in emerging destinations. Theme parks are increasingly leveraging technology to create unique selling points, and Thrill Glider exemplifies that approach.

For travel agents and tour operators, the new coaster offers a fresh hook for Southern California packages. The park's ongoing renaissance, including recent investments in dining and entertainment, positions it as a competitive option for group travel and corporate events. As the 2027 opening approaches, stakeholders should monitor booking trends and partnership opportunities.

Six Flags Magic Mountain's commitment to innovation aligns with broader industry shifts toward immersive, tech-driven experiences. The Thrillglider category could inspire similar developments at other parks, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of thrill attractions globally.
