Dorsett Grand Subang, the Kuala Lumpur property under Dorsett Hospitality International, has named Nigel Boey as its new General Manager, effective 1 September 2026. Boey steps into the role with more than 16 years of hospitality experience, having held leadership positions at Las Vegas Sands, Marriott International, and Pan Pacific Hotels Group. Most recently, he served as Assistant General Manager at UOL Group Limited, where he honed his skills in commercial strategy and revenue management.
From corporate strategy to property operations
Boey's appointment signals a strategic shift for the hotel, as he returns to the operational side of the business. In a statement, he expressed enthusiasm for the move: “I am especially excited to return to property operations, where I can work closely with the team, drive meaningful change and see first-hand the positive impact of our collective efforts on both guests and colleagues.”
His background spans both luxury and business hotels, giving him a broad perspective on the evolving demands of the Asian hospitality market. At Las Vegas Sands, he was involved in large-scale integrated resort operations, while his time at Marriott and Pan Pacific exposed him to diverse brand standards and guest expectations.
Focus on commercial performance and guest experience
As General Manager, Boey will oversee all hotel operations and set the strategic direction for Dorsett Grand Subang. His priorities include enhancing commercial performance, elevating the guest experience, and fostering team development. He hinted at upcoming initiatives, saying, “There are many exciting developments on the horizon... guests, associates and the local community can look forward to some very positive changes.”
Dorsett Grand Subang is a full-service hotel catering to both business and leisure travellers, with meeting facilities, dining outlets, and a pool. The property is part of Dorsett Hospitality International, which operates in 27 cities worldwide, including Hong Kong, London, and Shanghai. The group has been expanding its footprint, and Boey's leadership is expected to strengthen the hotel's competitive position in the Kuala Lumpur market.
The appointment comes at a time when the Malaysian hospitality sector is rebounding, with increasing international arrivals and a growing MICE segment. Boey's experience in revenue management will be crucial in optimising yield across the hotel's rooms and event spaces.
Industry observers note that Boey's blend of corporate and operational experience aligns well with Dorsett's growth strategy. His previous role at UOL Group, a Singapore-listed property company, gave him insight into asset management and long-term planning, which could benefit the hotel's owners and stakeholders.
For travel professionals, the change at Dorsett Grand Subang is a signal of the group's commitment to strengthening its management team. Similar moves have been seen across the region, such as Mandarin Oriental Geneva's recent GM appointment, highlighting the industry's focus on experienced leadership.
Boey's appointment also underscores the importance of operational excellence in a competitive market. As he takes the reins, the hotel is likely to introduce new initiatives aimed at both corporate clients and leisure travellers. The local community may also see more engagement, as Boey hinted at broader changes.
Dorsett Hospitality International has been actively expanding its portfolio, and the success of its flagship properties is key to its growth. With Boey at the helm, Dorsett Grand Subang is poised to enhance its reputation for service and hospitality.
His appointment is effective from 1 September 2026, and he will be based at the hotel in Subang Jaya, a key business district near Kuala Lumpur's international airport.
